| Objective:Evaluate the clinical effect of spleen-kidney-tonifying acupuncture technic on treating ulcerative colitis with TCM syndrome differentiation of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney, aim to provide the research basis for the clinical application of acupuncture in treating ulcerative colitis. Methods:multicenter, randomized controlled trial has been adopted to observe the clinical effects. We divided34candidates randomly into two groups, who were diagnosed as UC by colonoscopy as well as met the criteria of the pattern of yang deficiency of both spleen and kidney based on TCM syndrome differentiation. Each group with17candidates, one named as experimental group, while the other one named as control group. Experimental group has been adopted with spleen-kidney-tonifying acupuncture (acupuncture plus ginger isolated moxibustion) and mesalazine anal suppository once per day,10times as one treatment course,4treatment course in total with2days break between each course. Control group has been adopted with mesalazine anal suppository once every morning,1gram each time for a continuous46days. Comprehensive assessments have been done by the end of all treatments.Results:(1)The general effects of experimental group is better than control group with significant difference (P<0.05). Significant effective rate is41.2%in experimental group and6.7%in control group; total effective rate is88.2%in experimental group and73.3%in control group.(2)The remission rates of the two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05).(3)The Scores of TCM Syndromes between two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05), which means the two treatments lead different improvements on TCM syndromes.(4) The results of both colonoscopy and colon biopsy between two groups were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusions:Spleen-kidney-tonifying acupuncture technic is an effective protocol in treating mild and moderate UC(the pattern of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney), it can alleviate the cardinal symptoms such as diarrhea, pain and weakness of lumbar and knees, etc, as well as repair intestinal mucosa and significantly improve TCM syndromes. |
