The 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games: It's Representation In The Chinese English Speaking Press And Significance Of Its Success.

In this thesis I will discuss the representation of the Guangzhou games in the Chinese English speaking newspapers. I will focus on the benefits it is believed the games have brought to China and the city of Guangzhou in particular. As Chinese English press is developing at a fast pace, it should be interesting to look at how it deals with such as important even for China as the Guangzhou games. I will first examine the importance that sports has in the media, drawing upon theorists who discuss the relationship between sports and society, as well as point out different political and emotional factors that media play when related to special sport events. As a general guideline, this research aims to look more closely at the different ways the Chinese English speaking newspapers have positively critiqued the 2010 Guangzhou games.
