Webmetrics is a new subject based on the development of net technologies. It is also deemed as an interdisciplinaiy composed of network technologies, networking management, irdbrmation resource management, bibliometrics etc. although it is mainly based on bibliometrics. It possesses its own new architectures and researching methods due to the specific nature of network information resources. In the context of the thesis, the history and development of webmetrics were filly described, conceptions and characteristics theoretically discussed, and the significance and objectives explicitly determined. Then, through a systematic summary and analysis of domestic and overseas efforts in the field, especially the achievements concerning domain name, HTML, DC, etc., new methods and rules which are a must in its research were further explored, and the research objective , research method and research context for the program were finally defined. The research work of the program was based on the arduously collected data containing 50293 websites, 274720 source pages and 3476618 quotation pages. Quantitative analysis was carried out in detail by using bibliometrics and inherent rules of network information resources and verif~?their accordance with those of the traditional bibliometrics, in order to provide practical experiences for managing network information resources and valuable suggestions and quantitative guidelines for information users to retrieve them. In the end, the thesis summarizes a few new applications of webmetrics.
