Land use change had far-reaching impacted the survival and development of human, .and it is one of global change research for the present. The investigation of land use conditions and dynamic change by use of RS technology can indicate directions for coordinateing land use structure and equitably arranging land resource. this research, In the support of the RS , GIS and GPS technology, studied land use type change , land use structure and space pattern from 1986-2003 in Minjiang valley, evaluated woodland pattern ecological suitability. The research content as followed:(1) Land use structure dynamic change and spacial pattern analysis in Minjiang valleyAfter land use was classfied by use of TM images, the land use structure and spatio pattern dynamic change was analized. The results indicated: Minjiang valley was covered mainly by woodland and cropland, their area was far 60%and far 10% of the total area. The land use dynamic change of Minjiang valley was mainly caused by reforestation of cropland, rural sprawl and agriculture inner strcture coordination. For 15 years , woodland area increased 871.46 km~2, cropland area and plantation area decreased 745.58 km~2 and 219.34 km . The land use change speed was 0.21%. The change of area below was acuter than area upper. After land use structure was predicted by use of markov, woodland area increased swingingly yearly, others decreased yearly, in particular croplandand and plantation decreased markly, and system stability decreased.,so the land use structure should be coordinated. The analysis of sapatio pattern showed: the integral landscape patch increased, avereage patch area decreased, Mean Shape Index and MPI decreased, Fragmentation index increased. The results showed that the landscape elements had a complex structural change and translation each other due to man ' s advantaged and disadvantaged disturbance to landscape. The decrease of Shannon' s diversity index and evenness index indicated that the contronl of woodland was increasingly increased, the suitability and heterogeneity of landscape decreased.(2) Woodland use structure dynamic change and spacial pattern analysis in Minjiang valleyAfter land use was classfied by use of TM images, the land use structure and spatio pattern dynamic change was analized. The results indicated: the total area of Minjiang valley increased,especially forest increased markly,but bald woodland area and shrub area decreased swingingly. The woodland was mainly covered by forest, Woodland use change was mainly caused by reforestation of bald woodland, the land change speed was fast, especially bald woodland change speed was 5.40%. The change of area below was acuter than area upper. The analysis of sapatio pattern showed: due to man ' s disturbance to landscape, he integral landscape patch increased, avereage patch area decreased, Mean Shape Index and MPI decreased, Fragmentation index increased. The decrease of Shannon' s diversity index and evenness index indicated that the contronl of woodland was increasingly increased.(3) Woodland use spatio pattern ecological suitability evaluationAfter soil feature, physiognomy feature, land use actuality feature and vegetation type feature were overlaied, land type was seemed as basic unit of evaluation.After woodland resource and its distribution were combined, the area difference, spatial suitability and present questions were far discussed through spatial suitability aspect The results showed: the first woodland area accounted 32% of Minjiang area, measure should be taken to improve ecological function of Minjiang valley.
