The use of land has emerged with the advent of mankind. It is an economic activity in which mankind's labor combines with the land to obtain material goods and services. This activity manifests itself in the exchange and conversion of material, energy, and valuable information between humans and the land.According to specific production and living conditions, human beings use land resources in different ways and in different forms to show their purpose and intention for land resources. The degree of land use reflects the degree of social and economic development. The rational use of land resources directly affects the settlement of population, resources, environment and development issues. The limited quantity of land resources and the unlimited human demand for land constitute a special contradiction in the use of land resources. It needs scientific planning and reasonable use of land to solve the problem, which also put forward objective requirements for the sustainable use of land resources. With the continuous increase of population, the pace of industrialization, urbanization, marketization and internationalization is accelerating, the lifestyle changes, resource consumption increases rapidly, and the contradiction between land use and socio-economic development is caused by the irrational use of land resources in violation of natural laws.Increasingly, the issue of land resource utilization has become a bottleneck in the current and future economic and social development. This thesis takes Jishou as the example. It firstly analyzes the basic situation of the land use and spatial structure configuration in Jishou City from the aspects of quantity, distribution and spatial distribution of various land types, and combines the physical geography characteristics and the social and economic development of Jishou City.Under the principles of scientific nature, comprehensiveness, systematism, and operability, this thesis selects proper agricultural land and construction land suitability assessment factors, using the analytic hierarchy process as a suitable evaluation method, and quantifying after confirming the weight.Through the overlaying analysis and calculation of ArcGIS 10.2 platform, the assessment results of its suitability will be obtained, and the direction of land use in each area of Jishou City which meets the intrinsic conditions of the land and the characteristics of the area will be determined. The evaluation results will be used as basis of the land use and special optimal configuration, and also the research basis of Jishou City.Based on the evaluation results,in accordance with the principles of local conditions, land efficiency allocation principles, theoretical principle of land conservation and intensive use and the realistic principle of the strict control of arable land, the overall planning of ecological land use and the optimization of urban and rural construction land.Based on the constraints of the land use target identified in the “Comprehensive Land Use Planning of Jishou City(2006-2020)”,the spatial distribution and characteristics of the structure of land use in Jishou City are summarized from the perspective of suitability.Through ArcGIS 10.2,which is a data processing platform, this thesis takes overlay analysis on land use suitability assessment map and land use current state map in Jishou City, comprehensively considers practical factors, and the land use and spatial structure optimization layout plan of Jishou are determined, and contrastive analysis of its results from its own analysis and original planning program is made,to ensure the feasibility of this program. Finally,it provides suggestions for optimizing the spatial structure of land use in Jishou City. The main conclusions achieved are the following:(1)The status quo of the spatial structure of land use in Jishou City is relatively complex.Ecological land is dominated by woodland, mainly in the middle-low and low mountain areas, construction areas and ecological areas overlapping each other, with no obvious boundary. The layout of urban and rural construction land development gradually tends to be good. Most of the newly-added construction land is built on arable land, which spreads broadly, dominating by high-quality cultivated land.Due to urban construction, the area of cultivated land decreases rapidly, and the integrity of it is destroyed.(2)Suitability assessment of agricultural land and construction land in Jishou City shows that the agricultural land and construction land in the city area distribute mainly in the optimized zones. The agricultural land in the city area has a good spatial structure, and is mainly distributed in areas with high agricultural land suitability.Ecological land is mainly distributed in low-middle and low mountain areas with worse agricultural land suitability. The spatial structure of land for urban construction tends to be optimized, and the land for urban construction is intensively connected, with rural residential areas surrounding urban construction land.(3)Based on the suitability assessment of land use and spatial optimal configuration in Jishou City, this thesis has reduced the man-made factors from the government, compared with the original plan, and can better adjust to the actual situation of land use in Jishou City.It has solved the development requirement of Jishou City in recent years, and the current inappropriate land use in the city.Based on the principle of optimized layout, this thesis tries to make the agricultural land and construction land in urban areas develop in a more scientific and rational way,and also provides guarantee for sustainable land use and development in Jishou City.
