A Research On The Functions Of The Host In TV Talk Show

TV talk show made a rapid progress in these days in Chinese TV screen. Simultaneously, the host/hostess plays a soul and core character in these programs. The performance of hosts decides the programs' success. As the TV talk show was introduced into China only in a short time, mature and excellent hosts are rare. My dissertation focuses on the functions which the hosts play in TV talk show. Applying linguistic theories and examples, I intended to analyze every function particularly to set up a framework of reference for the hosts.There are four parts in my dissertation. In the first part, I tracked the history and the present status of TV talk show. In the second and third parts, I combed the particular functions the hosts play in the TV talk show. In the fourth part, based on the above framework, I analyzed on how a host can establish his own characteristic style.In the end, I forecasted the developing trend about TV talk show and the new requirements to a host in this new trend.
