By retrospections and investigation of the rhetoric teaching in high school in China, two problems have been pointed out in the paper: 1) the teaching content, which is neither extent nor profound; and 2) the teaching method, which emphasizes the introduction of knowledge but neglects the training of ability; emphasizes the static explanation but ignores dynamic analysis; emphasizes single training but neglects the integrated practice. Aiming at these problems, corresponding strategies have been brought forward: definitude the teaching aim, renovating the teaching content, and ameliorating the teaching methods. In delimiting teaching aim, we ought to help students understand rhetoric better and acquire better language competence. In renovating the teaching content, we should make it systematic and complete. In ameliorating the teaching methods, we should pay attention to the combination of grammar teaching, text analysis, composition comment and actual use of language. Only in this way can we really improve the students' ability in rhetoric and thinking.
