Now AIDS is the fourth cause of death in the world, still it is the leading cause of death in Africa. It is estimated that, by the end of 2003, nearly 840,000 individuals were HIV-infected in China, including 80,000 individuals were AIDS patients. Now China is confronted with high morbidity and mortality, and the number of people living with HIV continues to rise. With the advent of Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART), morbidity and mortality among patients with HIV infection has declined. Not only the life time of HIV patients are prolonged, but also the life quality of patients are improved. However HAART treatment needs long term adherence for the patients. The adherence is critical for the efficiency of therapy. So far the research about relationship between adherence and psychological factors of Chinese people has still been few.Objectives: In order to know the situation of adherence in northeast of China and the effect of variable factors on adherence, we conducted this investigation.Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study for people receiving HAART therapy in Liaoning Province and Chuanying District, Jilin City, Jilin Province. The interviewer interviewed patients face to face. The questionnaire included the epidemiological information, adherence questionnaire, Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ), Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS), Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS), Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS). SPSS 11.5 database was established with the collection data, which was processed with t-test,χ2-test, Binary Logistic regression.
