Purpose:To explore the theory of meridian doctrine and the theory of meridian and musculature of Hegu acupoint treatment for peripheral facial paralysis on the basis the line of Yangming large intestine Channel of Hand and the line of Yangming large intestine meridian and musculature. What’s more, the effect was compared after the guidance of the theory of meridian doctrine and the theory of meridian and musculature,in order to provide a theoretical basic for the mechansim of Hegu acupoint treatment for peripheral facial paralysis.Material and methods:60 cases meeting the included criteria of peripheral facial paralysis were randomized divided into the treatment group(meridian doctrine group) and the control group(meridian and musculature group),30 cases in each group. The conventional treatment, national standard of treatment including Prednisone oral tablets and Aciclovir oral tablets, was received by each group. The treatment group was given: Hegu acupoint of healthy side, conventional treatment and facial acupuncture. The control group was given:Hegu acupoint diseased side, conventional treatment and facial acupuncture.Treatment of each group was continuded for 4 weeks, once a day,6 times a week.the effect of each group was observed and giving a comparision for two groups. Results:There is no significant difference by statistics in gender, age, diseased parts,H-B facial nerve function, facial disability index(FDI)(p>0.05)before treatment. But the effect of both groups was obviously improved in H-B facial nerve function and FDI after 4 weeks treatment comparing 4 weeks ago(p<0.05).What’s more, the effect comparing between the treatment group and the control group was different with statistical significance in H-B facial nerve function and FDI(p<0.05),and the total effectiveness of two groupsrespectively was 73.3%(control group) and 90%(treatment group) with statistical significance(p<0.05)and the effective of treatment group was better than that of the control group. Conclusion: 1 The theory of meridian doctrine wtih Hegu acupoint in the treatment of peripheral facial paralysis was confirmed in clinical. 2. choosing the Hegu acupoint of healthy side when treatment for peripheral facial paralysis. 3.the theory of meridian and musculature of Hegu acupoint treatment for peripheral facial paralysis remained to need to be further studied.
