With the increasing energy requirements of human being, the energycrisis is getting more and more serious. It is imperative to do researches ondeveloping and harnessing new energy resources. As is known, the ocean waveenergy is a kind of clean and renewable energy resource. It is estimated thatthe oceans on the earth contain over 5000GW electrical power. Since thestored wave energy resource is abundant in our country, developing a novelfloating type of wave energy device does great benefit to us. The device couldgenerate electrical power and supply the pharos, residents and PLA soldiersliving along the coast. As a national science fund object, this investigation hasa significant meaning.With the appearance of new permanent magnet materials, theperformance of permanent magnet machines has been greatly improved.Compared with the traditional rolling machine, the permanent magnetreciprocating generator makes the rotor act in a straight line, which perfectlymatches the characters of wave movements.This paper first introduces the history and state of the art of wave powergeneration systems and the importance of developing floating-type wavepower devices. Then it discusses the general method of designing a permanentmagnet reciprocating generator. Based on the brief introduction to theprinciple of Finite Element Method for calculating the electromagnetic field,the paper deals with applications of ANSYS in the generator design, givesapproaches to decide parameters and schemes out the sample machine. Thisdesign method is proved to be correct through the experimental results.The novel floating-type wave power device is built up by six samplegenerators. In terms of the statistical information of the ocean wave, the paperprovides a kinetic simulation of the system in real wave conditions andexpounds the output characters of it.According to the output voltage level of each generator unit, the paperdescribes an electrical power control strategy of the device, which is realizedby the logic chips and can automatically match the variable frequency andvoltage characters.
