Axial Field Flux-Switching Permanent Magnet (AFFSPM) machine is a novel axial field machine, which incorporates the advantages of the axial field and the flux-switching machine and has a bright future for EV. In this dissertation, the keys of the theoretical and technical issues about AFFSPM machine are deeply and systematically studied, including the design, structure optimization, finite element analysis, static characteristics, cogging torque reduction, and control strategies of the AFFSPM machine. According to the analysis, a prototype is built and tested. The dissertation lays a foundation for the further research and development of the AFFSPM machine.The research works of this dissertation are as follows:■ The power-size equation of the AFFSPM machine is deduced and the initial design parameters is proposed based on the power equation. Moreover, the electromagnetic performances under initial design parameters for parallel PM and parallel slot (PPPS), parallel tooth and parallel slot (PTPS), and parallel PM and parallel tooth (PPPT) stator structure are investigated and compared.■ The influence of the design parameters, such as the stator tooth width, PM width, stator axial length, stator yoker depth, rotor pole width, and rotor pole shape, on the electromagnetic performances of PPPS, PTPS, and PPPT machine is analyzed. Both the stator and rotor structure are optimized and the electromagnetic performances are investigated and compared with the optimal structure for three different stator structure machines. The structure and the design parameters of the AFFSPM machine are obtained and the prototype is built.■ Based on the finite element method (FEM), the static characteristics of the PPPS prototype are investigated. The experiments of the prototype are conducted and the experimental results are compared with those of the simulation, which verifies the correctness of the design theory of the AFFSPM machine.■ The cogging torque of the AFFSPM machine are investigated. The influence of the rotor pole skew on the different stator structure machine are analyzed. For PPPS machine, the cogging torque reduction by rotor tooth notching and adding the magnetic bridge in stator are investigated. Moreover, the dummy slot width, slot depth, and slot shape are optimized by DOE and the optimal dummy slot is designed.■ The complete mathematical models of AFFSPM machine are built and analyzed both in stator and rotor reference frames. According to the static characteristics of AFFSPM machine, the flux-linkage, no-load EMF, and inductance, etc., are sinusoidal and can be expressed with sinusoidal math expressions. The voltage equation, flux-linkage equation, and torque equation are built both in the stator static coordinate system and the rotor rotating coordinate system.The vector-control strategy is studied and the simulation models of AFFSPM machine are built based on MATLAB/Simulink. The operation characteristics of the AFFSPM machine under vector-control are simulated and the correctness of the mathematical models and control strategy are proved by the results of the simulation.■ The hardware and the software of the control system of AFFSPM machine are designed and the experimental platform is built. The experimental studies about AFFSPM machine under vector-control are done, which proves the effectiveness and the practicability of the control system.
