Recent advancements in the wave energy conversion(WEC)focused on the generation of large quantities of power using large-scale devices to utilize the high power wave potential.However,it is possible to generate small amounts of power using small WEC for the low power wave's areas.The direct-drive WEC system uses a direct-drive power takeoff method in which the linear permanent magnet generator(LPMG)is coupled directly to the floater that leads to simple configuration and high-efficiency system.The main common features of this device are simple structuring,modeling,power conditioning,and optimal control.These low-rated WEC can complement by the Solar PV energy to feed constant power to the grid.In this thesis,a multi-energy power generation system based on wave and solar energy is developed to improve power network quality and stability.The proposed WEC system employs Archimedes wave swing(AWS)and LMPG to convert the wave energy into electric power.The power available for extraction in wave energy converters depends on the sea state,thus varies substantially,similarly power from solar PV panels depends on weather conditions,therefore,in order to maintain a terminal voltage and constant active power output at the system side the full-scale back-to-back converters are adapted to interface with the power grid.The generator of the WEC produces variable input active power;therefore,the instantaneous power flow difference between the terminals of the converters needs to be balanced,in order to make the output power to the grid constant.The battery energy storage(BES)system charging and the discharging mechanism is used for instantaneous power flow balancing in the back-to-back converters.Further,DC-DC converters are installed to magnify the output of the PV energy combined at the DC bus and to maintain the voltage at a required level.Perturb and Observe(P&O)maximum power point(MPP)methodology is deployed to extract the maximum power from the solar PV array.This model is developed by using MATLAB/SIMULINK tool.The results show that the proposed multi-energy power generation system can complement the generated power of WEC and PV,which improves the power system quality and stability.
