Chen Shiduo, also named as Jingzhi, Zhu Huazi, Liangong, who claimed to be the master of Dayatang, is from Shaoxing, Zhejiang province. He is a famous medical scientist in the beginning of the Qing Dynasty who diligent in writing. All his works are of great academic value, including medical interpretation, clinical diagnosis and treatment, prescription and Chinese herbal medicine. He learned widely from his family members, other famous doctors and the folk medicine experience. Through long-term clinical practice, he formed a distinct style of academic thought. The innovative ideas in his works attracted praise from the later scholars. As a result, study the characteristics of the zangfu theory and its clinical practice in his works, can better inherit and develop the theory of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and to guide our clinical application. In this paper, the characteristics of Chen’s zangfu theory have been carried on with following five aspects. By means of analyzing the related arguments and clinical cases in his works, it is in order to improve our clinical efficacy. The first chapter is the change of the mutual promotion and restraint between the five elements. The core content of five elements theory is the correspondence between man and nature, the classification of the five elements, and the mutual promotion and restraint between the five elements. In the development process of TCM, the five elements theory provides a method of the overall view and dynamic methodology, and an analogy thinking method. The book of Inner Canon of Huangdi explains the normal movement of the five elements. However, Chen’s work explained the change of the mutual promotion and restraint between the five elements, including restraint in promotion, promotion in restraint, incomplete promotion, incomplete restraint, dare not to promotion because of restraint, and dare not to restraint because of promotion. Chen’s comprehension of the five elements theory, has enriched and developed the basic theory of TCM, and has become his guiding ideology in analyzing disease and syndrome differentiation treatment. The second chapter is BaoTai. On the basis of viscera theory in the book of Inner Canon of Huangdi, Chen put forward the theory of "six zang and seven fu". In addition to liver, heart, spleen, lung, kidney, the five zang organs, Chen claimed BaoTai as the sixth zang organ. The reason that BaoTai is not called the sixth zang organ is BaoTai has different quality from the five zang organs. BaoTai is connected to heart and kidney, has the function of link heart and kidney, and the upper and lower human body. In the syndrome differentiation treatment, Chen attached great importance to the relationship between BaoTai and other viscera or meridians. The third chapter is BaoLuo. On the basis of viscera theory in the book of Inner Canon of Huangdi, Chen put forward the theory of "six zang and seven fu" In addition to large intestine, small intestine, bile, stomach, triple energizer, bladder, the six fu organs, Chen claimed BaoLuo as the seventh fu organ. The reason that BaoLuo is not called the seventh fu organ is to respect heart as the emperor. BaoLuo has other names as XinBao, XinZhu, XinBaoLuo and TanZhong. In the syndrome differentiation treatment, Chen attached great importance to the relationship between BaoLuo and other viscera. The fourth chapter is the gate of vitality. Among numerous doctors in Ming and QingDynasties, Sun Yikui, Zhao Xianke and Zhang Jingyue are the top three ones who have perfected the theory of gate of vitality in aspects of principle, method, recipe and medicines. Chen was influenced by Zhao Xianke and Zhang Jingyue, and followed Zhao Xianke’s core theory of the gate of vitality. Chen claimed that the gate of vitality is located between kidneys, kidney-yin and kidney-yang are promoting and restraining with each other. The gate of vitality manages twelve meridians. The fire of the life gate makes all the organs and meridians to live on. Also the fire of the life gate should be reinforced other than be reduced. In the syndrome differentiation treatment, Chen attached great importance to the relationship between the gate of vitality and other viscera and body part. The fifth chapter is the intercourse between heart and kidney, which is an important physiological mechanism of the five zang organs. The heart fire comes down while the kidney water goes up, the balance and coordination of the two is an important content of the five zang organs theory, which is also a significant condition to maintain normal life activity. Chen believed that the relationship between heart and kidney is mutual promotion other than mutual restriction. Kidney-yin nourishes the heart and the heart fire warms the kidney. The association between heart and kidney has the closest relatives to liver and gallbladder, as well as BaoTai. In the syndrome differentiation treatment, Chen used a number of methods to coordinate heart and kidney. The last part is the systematic review. The objective is to systematically evaluate the effectiveness and security of Sanpian Decoction treatment on migraine. The main results are:six trials were selected. This study discussed Sanpian Decoction treatment on migraine is effective, and possesses high safety and fewer side effects and in the aspect of Evidence-based Medicine and quest for standardization of clinical research methods. Hoping a bit of thinking can be lightening up by this study.
