Study On The Relationship Among Urban Agglomeration Effect,Urban Efficiency And Economic Growth

The report of the 20th Party Congress pointed out that the coordinated regional development strategy should be implemented in depth,and a regional economic layout with complementary advantages and high-quality development should be built.At present,the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta regions have shown positive urban agglomeration effects and economic growth effects brought about by urban efficiency improvement.So how the Bohai Rim region should make use of its industrial and location advantages to achieve long-term economic growth and drive the economic development of the relatively backward cities in the surrounding area with the central cities has become an urgent problem to be solved,and also has important implications for the regional economic growth and policy formulation of the economic zone as a whole.It is also important for the regional economic growth and policy formulation of the economic zone as a whole.This thesis delves into the mechanisms underlying the agglomeration effect,urban efficiency and economic development in the Bohai Rim Economic Zone,providing a new theoretical perspective for the study of related issues and a reference for related research on urban agglomerations in other regions.Based on the above perceptions,the work and findings of the study focus on the following aspects:Firstly,it does the measurement and analysis of the service volume and agglomeration effect of outward-facing functions among cities in the Bohai Rim Economic Zone.By calculating the locational entropy index to screen the industries of each city and using the city flow intensity model of cities with outward-facing industries,the analysis concludes that Beijing and Tianjin have a relatively leading level of agglomeration and radiation,but there is no absolute radiation effect.Meanwhile,the dynamic evolution analysis of city flow intensity in some years reveals that the intensity is higher in the central cities within the economic zone,and the industrial advantages of coastal cities are underplayed.Secondly,it does the measurement of urban development efficiency in the Bohai Rim Economic Zone and the analysis of the influence mechanism of agglomeration effect on urban efficiency.Through the SBM-Tobit-Malmquist index analysis model,the urban development efficiency within the Bohai Rim Economic Zone with and without non-desired output is measured respectively,and it is found that the urban development efficiency curve can be roughly divided into a stable period and an oscillation period,with the efficiency of each city except Beijing and Tianjin being more negatively affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic,and76.7% of the urban efficiency within the economic zone in the ten-year period is improved through technological progress.The coastal cities at the forefront of efficiency development and Tianjin not yet fully exploiting its developmental dynamics.Thirdly,it does the analysis of the mechanism by which agglomeration effect and urban efficiency jointly influence urban economic growth.Through systematic gmm dynamic analysis,it is concluded that there is a time lag effect on economic growth within the Bohai Rim Economic Zone,in which the agglomeration effect represented by the intensity of urban flow and city size has a positive promotion effect on the regional economy,while the opposite is true for population agglomeration;then three sets of tests are conducted on the possible mediating effect of urban efficiency using different measures of agglomeration effect as classification criteria respectively.And the results show that: urban efficiency,as a mediating variable,plays a partly mediating role in the process of the agglomeration effect on urban economic growth,which is conducive to further promoting economic growth and reducing the negative impact of the agglomeration effect on economic growth.Finally,based on the above conclusions and analysis and in conjunction with the development of the Bohai Rim Economic Zone,the following recommendations are made for the development of the economic zone based on the objectives of giving full play to the agglomeration effect of central cities,improving the efficiency of comprehensive urban development,reducing the economic development gap between regions,and achieving high-quality and stable development of the economic zone as a whole: Promoting city exchanges and reciprocity and play a leading role with advantages;Paying attention to high-quality cultivation and establish a sound mechanism for attracting talents;Optimising infrastructure construction and reduce waste of resources;Promoting green and healthy development and improving the efficiency of urban development;Making some reasonable plan of operational countermeasures to enhance the ability to counteract risks.
