Agricultural strength is the foundation of a strong socialist modernized nation, and improving the quality and export competitiveness of agricultural products is a key task in building a modern socialist country in the next five years. As the largest export category in China’s agricultural products, aquatic products also face challenges from other strong countries.Japan has always been the largest export destination for China’s aquatic products, but in recent years,China’s export share has been declining. With rising resource costs,it is difficult for China to compete with strong countries based on previous price advantages.Studying the quality competitiveness of China’s aquatic products in the Japanese market, comparing with other countries, breaking through the bottleneck of China’s aquatic product exports, and making up for the shortcomings of aquatic product export trade have become key issues under the current economic situation. What are the competitive advantages of China’s aquatic products? What are the characteristics of trade structure and competitiveness? How does the trade structure and quality competitiveness change compared with other countries exporting to Japan? What factors affect the quality competitiveness of China’s aquatic product exports? This article attempts to study the international trade issues of aquatic products from the perspectives of trade structure and quality competitiveness and provide relevant policy recommendations for trade and industry policies. This article sorts out and analyzes the changes in the export trade structure of China’s aquatic products and, based on this, analyzes the trade scale, product structure characteristics, changes in Japan’s import demand, and changes in China’s trade with major import source countries in the Japanese aquatic product import market. The empirical part constructs a quality competitiveness evaluation index that is more in line with the demand of the Japanese import market and studies the quality changes of China and other countries in the Japanese market from three dimensions: export structure similarity, water resource endowment coefficient, and unit value method adjusted by production technology. To further explore the reasons for the quality changes of China’s aquatic products and find the key factors affecting the quality competitiveness of China’s aquatic products, this paper constructs an impact factor model of China’s aquatic product quality competitiveness based on the diamond model and uses the entropy method to determine the discrete indicators affecting the quality competitiveness of aquatic products. The research finds that the structural similarity of China’s aquatic products is getting higher and higher with the four Southeast Asian countries;China’s per capita water resource endowment is relatively low,and the water resource endowment coefficient is declining year by year;China’s quality competitive advantage is not obvious in the aquatic product categories with a large export trade scale;China’s aquatic product export quality competitiveness is on the rise overall, but there is a significant gap with developed countries. The key factors affecting the quality competitiveness of China’s aquatic products are market entities and governments, followed by related supporting industries, and the impact of production factors and demand factors is relatively weak. The innovation of this article is based on the diamond model, incorporating other factors related to quality competitiveness into the model, and constructing a quality competitiveness analysis framework that is more in line with the actual development situation according to the characteristics of aquatic products. It constructs a more comprehensive evaluation index system and compares China’s aquatic product trade situation and competitiveness at the international level.
