| As the economic development has increased, the outward foreign direct investment of China has been growing. The signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership(RCEP)has led to frequent economic exchanges between China and the RCEP countries, and the RCEP countries have now become important investment destinations for China. At the same time, the traditional competitive advantages of China’s foreign trade are weakening, new advantages need to be cultivated and transformed, and the focus of economic development has changed from quantitative growth to qualitative improvement, therefore,China needs to optimize its export technology structure and cultivate new advantages in international competition. In this international context, the official entry into force of RCEP will further affect China’s direct investment activities and trade with RCEP countries, thus it is of some practical significance to study the impact of China’s direct investment to RCEP countries on the technology structure of exports. This paper contains five main parts. The first part is the introduction, which describes the background and significance of this paper, and adopts the literature research method to review the relevant research literature at home and abroad. The second part is a theoretical mechanism analysis, which summarises the theories on OFDI and the technological structure of exports and analyses the mechanisms affecting the technological structure of exports in terms of reverse-gradient OFDI and down-gradient OFDI.The third part is a status quo analysis, which measures the technological structure of exports by measuring the level of the technological structure of exports, using statistical description and comparative analysis to analyse the current status of China’s direct investment and the technological structure of exports to RCEP countries. The fourth part is the empirical analysis, which investigates the impact of China’s direct investment to RCEP countries on the technology structure of exports through an empirical research method. The fifth part is the conclusion and suggestions for countermeasures, which summarises the main conclusions of this paper in response to the analysis of the current situation and the empirical part, and then proposes countermeasures. This paper mainly draws the following conclusions:(1)the overall scale of China’s direct investment to RCEP countries is on an upward trend, with the growth rate changing from slow to fast;at the same time,China’s direct investment to RCEP member countries is uneven, mainly going to Singapore and Australia;in addition,China’s direct investment to RCEP countries is uneven across industries, mainly concentrated in the secondary industry.(2)The technology structure of China’s exports to RCEP countries has been continuously optimised, faster for countries with high levels of economic development than for those with low levels of economic development.(3)Chinese direct investment to RCEP countries can significantly contribute to the optimisation of the technological structure of China’s exports.(4)China’s direct investment to both developed and developing countries in the RCEP countries can significantly contribute to the optimisation of China’s export technology structure, with the promotion effect of direct investment to developed countries being more significant. Therefore, the differences in the impact of direct investment to different countries on the export technology structure can be used to promote the continuous optimisation of the export technology structure. |
