The agricultural trade is related to China’s food security and is subject to long-term challenges due to the new crown epidemic and the international situation. On the one hand, there are the sanctions imposed by western forces on China’s agricultural trade, and on the other hand, there is the contradiction between China’s huge population base and the lack of arable land area.Ensuring China’s food security and enriching the agricultural trade supply chain is an important issue that cannot be delayed.Since the introduction of the Belt and Road initiative,China’s agricultural trade cooperation with the "Belt and Road" countries has gradually deepened.Under the background of the new epidemic, online sales, online ordering and online payment have brought new growth points for agricultural trade. Therefore, studying the impact of digital economy development level of "One Belt and One Road" countries on China’s agricultural products import is not only the trend of technological development, but also an important issue to further ensure China’s agricultural products trade and ensure China’s food security. The article firstly conducts a systematic descriptive statistical analysis on the current situation of China’s agricultural imports, and clarifies the current trade scale and trade structure of China’s agricultural imports from the "Belt and Road" member countries.Secondly, based on the existing research on digital economy, the article constructs a digital economy development index system to measure the digital economy development level of the main agricultural trade countries along the Belt and Road,so as to grasp the overall digital economy development level, development trend and development distribution of the countries along the Belt and Road. Finally, based on the theoretical analysis and research hypotheses,a panel model is constructed to empirically test the effect of the level of digital economy development of the major agricultural trade countries along the Belt and Road on China’s agricultural imports, and to propose policy recommendations for further strengthening the role of digital economy in the agricultural trade cooperation between China and the countries along the Belt and Road,so as to provide a theoretical basis and practical basis for ensuring China’s This study provides a theoretical basis and a practical basis for ensuring food security in China. The results of the study show that:(1)China’s agricultural imports have increased significantly in the past decade, and the agricultural trade imports with 65 member countries account for more than one-fifth of the world’s agricultural trade imports, and the trade cooperation countries are relatively concentrated, with the agricultural imports of the main seven trading partner countries accounting for more than 85% of the agricultural imports of member countries.(2)There are huge differences in the level of digital economy development among the member countries of the Belt and Road, and there are also obvious differences in the rate of digital economy development, with the Philippines,Indonesia,Russia,Slovenia and other countries experiencing greater growth in digital economy development.China’s digital economy has been developing rapidly in the past 11 years, and the level of digital economy ranks first.(3)The level of digital economy development of exporting countries has a significant effect on China’s agricultural imports based on three aspects: digital infrastructure, digital industry development and digital cooperation;and the effect of the level of digital economy development on the trade volume of labour intensive agricultural products is more significant, while the effect on land-intensive agricultural products is not significant;in addition, the higher the level of digital economy development, the more significant the effect of digital economy on the trade of agricultural products in the region. In addition, the higher the level of development of digital economy, the more significant the effect of digital economy on agricultural trade and the more influence paths there are. Finally, based on the above findings, this paper proposes to strengthen the construction of digital economy infrastructure, enhance the competitiveness and perfection of digital industry, and accelerate the establishment of digital trade agreements,so as to provide policy recommendations for promoting cooperation in digital trade of agricultural products between China and the countries along the route.
