| With the gradual promotion of rural revitalization strategy in China, agriculture and rural areas are given priority development, traditional agriculture is gradually transformed into modern agriculture, agricultural productivity has been further improved, rural conditions have been improved and farmers’ incomes have increased to attract migrant workers to return to their hometowns for reemployment, but agricultural technological progress and organizational management innovation have liberated the originally necessary agricultural labor, and the relationship between the two is unknown. Therefore, this paper examines the impact of agricultural productivity progress on rural labor transfer from the perspective of rural households. In this paper, the China Labor Force Dynamics Survey(CLDS),2016 and 2018 are used for the first time, and the impact of agricultural productivity progress on rural household labor transfer was empirically studied by using the least squares method(OLS)and two-stage least squares(2SLS)regression model, and on this basis, the heterogeneity analysis was carried out by subregion. Then, the proportion of family farm income and household agricultural labor force is included in the analysis framework for further mechanism analysis. Finally, the interprovincial panel data from 2005 to 2020 are used to further investigate the impact of interprovincial agricultural productivity progress on rural labor transfer in provinces from a macro perspective. The analysis of regression results shows that from the micro data,it is found that agricultural productivity progress will promote the transfer of rural labor,on the one hand, the probability of household labor outflow can be increased by releasing the originally necessary agricultural labor of households,on the other hand,it can also increase family agricultural income through the income mechanism to attract labor return, but the trend of return is small, and the majority of the returning labour force is employed in the secondary and tertiary sectors of the countryside, not agriculture.Starting from the macro data,it is found that the improvement of agricultural productivity will promote the transfer of rural labor in the province and drive non-agricultural employment. Therefore, the results show that the vigorous development of agriculture in rural areas will further improve the course of urbanization in China, and form a new type of modern rural and developed urban departments to coordinate together. To this end,the following policy suggestions are put forward: correctly understand China’s unique urbanrural relationship, and improve agricultural productivity from the aspects of agricultural technological progress and organizational management innovation;Give full play to the role of the government, stimulate entrepreneurship and create more non-farm jobs. |
