With the continuous innovation and development of e-commerce in recent years,profound changes have taken place in the consumption patterns of Chinese residents.Especially during the epidemic,e-commerce has changed the traditional transaction methods and improved the efficiency of resource allocation by taking advantage of "non-contact".It provides residents with a higher-quality consumer service experience and gradually becomes the mainstream way for residents to consume.Therefore,studying the relationship between the development of e-commerce and the upgrading of Chinese residents’ consumption,and discussing the effective path for the development of e-commerce to promote the upgrading of residents’ consumption has important theoretical and practical significance for residents’ consumption to effectively promote the stable development of the national economy under the new development pattern of "dual circulation".This paper is mainly guided by the theory of e-commerce and residents’ consumption,starting from the two aspects of residents’ consumption level and consumption structure,focusing on the main line of "the impact of the development of e-commerce on the consumption of Chinese residents".Firstly,this paper comprehensively discusses the influence mechanism of e-commerce development on residents’ consumption level and consumption structure from the theoretical level.Secondly,through the analysis of the current situation of related indicators of ecommerce and residents’ consumption,we can understand the overall situation of my country’s e-commerce and residents’ consumption,and lay the foundation for subsequent empirical analysis.Finally,the e-commerce development level index calculated by the global entropy method is taken as the core explanatory variable,the economic development,consumer price index and urbanization level are taken as control variables,per capita consumption level and consumption structure are taken as explanatory variables,based on the national inter-provincial panel data from 2013 to2020 to empirically analyze the specific impact of e-commerce development on Chinese residents’ consumption,and further use the mediation effect model to analyze the specific path of e-commerce development affecting residents’ consumption upgrade.The research results show that: Firstly,in terms of residents’ consumption level,the development of e-commerce can significantly promote the improvement of residents’ consumption level,moreover,the driving effect in the central region is obviously stronger than that in the eastern and western regions.and residents’ income plays a complete mediating effect in this process.Secondly,in terms of consumption structure,the development of e-commerce also has a significant promoting effect on the upgrading of residents’ consumption structure.This promoting effect is mainly reflected in the development-oriented consumption structure of residents,and the effect in the area is shown to decrease in turn from east to west.Finally,combined with the development status and empirical results of my country’s e-commerce,it puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions on how the development of ecommerce can better promote the improvement of residents’ consumption level and the optimization and upgrading of consumption structure.
