Supply Chain Network Location And Enterprise Internationalization Performance

The report of the 20 th National Congress of the CPC pointed out that efforts should be made to improve the resilience and security of the supply chain.Besides,the Central Economic Work Conference in 2022 further emphasized that "industrial policy should be developed simultaneously with security" and "efforts should be made to strengthen weakness in the industrial chain".The company’s overseas business performance is deeply affected by its embedded social networks,which is an important category of the social networks of enterprises.Based on the social network theory,many scholars have paid attention to the impact of enterprise social network location on international performance,such as executive networks,home country network and political network.At present,the trend of economic globalization is irreversible.China has become the largest country in the world’s goods trade and the second largest country in OFDI.In addition,the government is still issuing various policies and regulations to encourage enterprises to go abroad.In this context,the international development of enterprises has been a hot topic for scholars to study,but few have studied how it is affected by the location of enterprise supply chain network.Based on this,this paper will study the relationship between the company’s location of supply chain network and the internationalization performance,which not only has important policy significance for the government to adjust its concept and actively promote the development of enterprise internationalization,but also brings new enlightenment for enterprises to better play the role of supply chain network.This paper reviews the relevant research literature on supply chain network and internationalization performance at home and abroad,and then raise research hypotheses after a specific analysis of the relationship between them.By manually collecting and adding the supply chain network data of A-share listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen from 2008 to 2020 for the empirical study,the conclusions reached in this paper are inconsistent with the views agreed in some existing studies.The main findings of this paper are as follows:(1)The company’s position advantage in the supply chain network will not bring benefits to the company,but will make its international performance worse.(2)In order to explain its operating mechanism,this paper find that business risk is an important transmission mechanism through the process of influence that the location of the enterprise supply chain network location brings to the internationalization performance.(3)The further analysis results shows that the negative influence of the advantage position of the enterprise supply chain network on the internationalization performance is stronger in the sample of non-state-owned enterprises,and the basic conclusion drew by this paper remain unchanged after the endogenous control and robustness test.According to the above empirical conclusions,the following suggestions are proposed both from the perspectives of enterprises and governments: first,enterprises should carefully and reasonably select supply chain partners to build a safe and effective supply chain network;Second,enterprises need to improve their ability to avoid overdependence on the network.For the government,first,accelerate the process of marketization and help the supply chain network give better play to its advantages;Second,continue to establish multilateral and bilateral cooperation mechanisms to pave the way for international exchanges between enterprises;Third,further improve the service system to support the internationalization of enterprises.
