At the beginning of 2020,the coronavirus epidemic severely hit the development of various enterprises and organizations.In the face of frequent uncertain situations and extreme events,more scholars and business managers began to pay attention to the resilience of enterprises.Enterprise quality and vitality are the micro-foundation of an economy ’s competitiveness.As an essential ability for enterprises to cope with and bear uncertain risks,organizational resilience plays a vital role in the sustainable development of enterprises.Studies have found that CSR is an important antecedent of organizational resilience,and the performance improvement and guarantee of CSR can be used to improve the performance of the organization,and then buffer the negative impact of the crisis on the organization.This paper studies the transmission mechanism of corporate social responsibility and organizational resilience from the perspective of signal theory by combing the relevant literature on corporate social responsibility,corporate reputation and organizational resilience,including the mediating variables of corporate reputation.This paper uses empirical research to find that:(1)the fulfillment of corporate social responsibility improves organizational resilience by significantly reducing the financial volatility of the organization and improving the long-term performance growth of the organization.Reciprocal CSR has a greater impact on organizational resilience than altruistic CSR.(2)Corporate reputation plays a part-mediating role in the relationship between corporate social responsibility and organizational resilience,and continuous social responsibility practice effectively enhances the reputation value of enterprises in the market,and then better obtains external resource support,so as to enhance the organization’s resistance and resilience in the crisis;(3)Compared with state-owned enterprises,non-state-owned enterprises have a stronger impact on organizational resilience when fulfilling corporate social responsibility;In the regression of industry groups,it is found that CSR has a more significant effect on the organizational resilience of manufacturing enterprises.After a series of robustness tests such as replacing the explanatory variables,the conclusion of this paper is still robust.This paper further enriches the research and analysis framework of organizational resilience,and introduces corporate reputation as an intermediary variable,broadening the research perspective and influence mechanism of enterprises.Therefore,in the new environment,placing social responsibility in an important strategic position can help enterprises build organizational resilience to cope with various crises.
