The Impact Of Trade Facilitation On Export Technological Sophistication Of Emerging Services In G20 Countries

As an important international issue,trade facilitation has attracted attention from countries around the world.The implementation of the Trade Facilitation Agreement has not only promoted the development of the world economy,but also helped developing countries withstand the impact of risks.Previous scholars mainly focused on the important role of trade facilitation in goods trade.As service trade has gradually become one of the important factors for countries to integrate into globalization,the importance of emerging services become increasingly prominent.However,the proportion of export of emerging services,mainly knowledge-intensive services,is much lower than that of traditional services,which is not conducive to the high-quality development of service trade.Therefore,it is of great theoretical and practical significance to explore the influencing factors and mechanism paths of trade facilitation on the export technological sophistication of emerging service.By reviewing the literature,this essay summarizes the relevant studies on trade facilitation and export technological sophistication,and explores how trade facilitation influence service export technological sophistication based on theories.The analysis of the current situation includes the establishment of trade facilitation evaluation system and use global principal component analysis to figure the trade facilitation of G20.Among different countries,trade facilitation varies a lot,but the gap between them has narrowed.Also,the essay calculates export technological sophistication of emerging service of G20 by using UNCTAD database,and makes comparative analysis by grouping countries.In the empirical study,cross-border panel data from 2010 to 2019 are used to analyze the influence of G20 countries’ trade facilitation on the export technological sophistication of emerging service and verify the influence path of trade facilitation on export technological sophistication.The main conclusions of this essay are as follows: Trade facilitation can promote the export technological sophistication of emerging service among G20.In terms of classifying countries,trade facilitation influences the service export technological sophistication of emerging economies.In terms of classifying service,trade facilitation has a significant effect on the export technological sophistication of financial services,telecommunications and computer services.About control variables,innovative manpower input,trade dependency,and scale of emerging service trade all affect service export technological sophistication of G20.In addition,trade facilitation can increase the export technological sophistication by reducing trade costs,increasing human capital input and absorbing technology spillovers.Taken all above into conclusion,this essay argues that,on the basis of improving trade facilitation,emerging economies in G20 should learn from the successful experience of developed countries by increasing the level of research and development,opening up further to the outside world and so on,so as to further improve the technical complexity of service export.
