Since the beginning of the 21st century, the international and domestic situations have become increasingly complicated, and uncertainties such as the outbreak of the global financial crisis, the turbulent foreign trade environment, and the ravages of the COVID-19 have had a huge impact on the economic development of various countries, and how to improve regional economic resilience has become a hot topic in the field of economics.Industrial structure is closely linked to regional economic development, and a reasonable identification of the impact effects of industrial structure changes on economic resilience is conducive to carrying out regional industrial structure layout and adjustment from the perspective of enhancing economic resilience, and helping to promote China’s high-quality economic development. This paper explores the impact of industrial structural change on regional economic resilience, based on theories related to industrial structural change and regional economic resilience.First, the concepts of industrial structural change and regional economic resilience are defined. At the same time, relevant literature is summarized and sorted out to clarify the current status of research at home and abroad and to provide a research basis for this paper.Secondly,in the theoretical analysis section, the mechanisms of industrial structure advancement, specialization and diversification on regional economic resilience are sorted out from different dimensions of industrial structure change, and the mechanisms through which industrial structure specialization plays a moderating role are also analyzed. In addition, based on the existing literature,a regional economic resilience index system comprising four dimensions, including conditional endowment, resistance and maintenance capacity, adjustment and adaptation capacity, and innovation and recovery capacity,is constructed, and the measurement methods of industrial structure advanced, specialization and diversification are selected to measure the relevant index levels of 31 Chinese provinces from 2005 to 2020,and a brief analysis is conducted based on the calculation results. In the empirical analysis section,a fixed-effects model is applied to analyse the impact of industrial structural change on regional economic resilience, and robustness and heterogeneity tests are conducted. The results show that: first, from the empirical results of the whole sample, industrial structural change has a positive impact on the overall regional economic resilience, with industrial specialization having a significant moderating effect in the process;second, both industrial structural advancement and specialization have a positive impact on the four sub-dimensions of conditional endowment, resistance and maintenance capacity, regulation and Secondly, both industrial structural upgrading and specialization have positive effects on the four sub-dimensions of conditional endowment, while industrial structural diversification only has a positive effect on resistance and maintenance capacity and innovation and resilience;thirdly, the impact of industrial structural change on economic resilience is regionally heterogeneous, and there is heterogeneity across time under major event shocks.Third, the impact of industrial structure change on economic resilience is regionally heterogeneous, and there is heterogeneity across time under major event shocks.Based on the results of the analysis, three countermeasures are proposed: First,we should improve the capacity for scientific and technological innovation to help optimize and upgrade the industrial structure.Secondly, industrial development should be tailored to local conditions, and specialization and diversification of industrial structure should be reasonably promoted.Thirdly,to promote coordinated regional development and enhance the overall resilience to risks.
