The renovation of old residential areas is an important measure of urbanization development in the new era,and an important way to promote urban development and ensure people’s livelihood. It has received strong support from the central and local governments. However,in the process of reconstruction, due to construction interference, information communication and other factors lead to frequent conflicts, making the reconstruction work difficult.Among them, residents,as direct beneficiaries and demanders, are the main source of conflicts, and there is an insoluble conflict dilemma with the government and reconstruction enterprises, which is the main reason for the "push but not move" of reconstruction projects. Therefore, based on the perspective of residents, this study explores the formation mechanism of conflicts in the reconstruction of old residential areas,in order to provide strategic suggestions for conflict management and reduce or even avoid the occurrence of conflict events.First, the Grounded theory is used to conduct a three-level coding analysis of semi-structured interview data and literature, identify the factors influencing conflict in the transformation of old residential areas, and divide the conflict formation process into potential conflict stage(external environmental stimulus),conflict germination stage(internal psychological drive)and conflict appearance stage(conflict behavior outbreak)according to social movement theory, social conflict theory, and stimulus organism response theory. The influencing factors of conflict are divided into external environmental factors, construction control, information communication, local government behavior, interest balance, public opinion environment and policy environment, and internal psychological factors, trust level.Secondly, based on the Grounded theory coding process and literature analysis, this paper explores the main relationship between the influencing factors, puts forward 13 research hypotheses, and constructs a research model of conflict formation mechanism. Then, questionnaire survey is used to collect sample data related to influencing factors and conflict behaviors, and the reliability and validity of the questionnaire data are analyzed. The structural equation model is used to analyze the path of conflict formation mechanism and test the direct and intermediate effects among the influencing factors. The empirical analysis results show that:(1)External environmental factors such as construction control, information communication, local government behavior, interest balance and public opinion environment have a positive impact on trust level, that is,favorable external environment promotes the improvement of inter-subject trust level, while policy environmental factors have an insignificant impact on trust as residents in old residential areas are mainly the elderly and tenants and are not sensitive to policy environment.(2)The trust level of internal psychological factors negatively affects the conflict behavior, that is,maintaining a high trust level among subjects can effectively restrain the generation of conflict behavior.(3)External environmental factors such as construction control, information communication, local government behavior, interest balance and public opinion environment can effectively inhibit the generation of conflict behaviors through the mediating effect of trust level. Finally, based on the empirical analysis results, the formation mechanism of conflict is analyzed from three stages: potential conflict stage, embryonic conflict stage and emerging conflict stage, and strategic suggestions are put forward for conflict governance from five aspects: strengthening construction control, attaching importance to information communication, optimizing government behavior, promoting interest balance and grasping the direction of public opinion, which is conducive to resolving conflicts in the potential stage. From the perspective of residents, this study analyzed the influencing factors of conflicts in the reconstruction of old residential areas, built a conflict formation mechanism model based on classical theories, which is helpful to scientifically understand the substantive formation process of conflicts, provide strategic suggestions for conflict management, properly deal with the conflicts between residents, the government and reconstruction enterprises in the reconstruction of old residential areas, and promote the smooth progress of the reconstruction project of old residential areas. |
