| Under the double squeeze of the accelerating global spread of COVID-19 and the weakening of the comparative advantages of traditional factors such as labor and land,Chinese enterprises are faced with huge challenges when they break away from the low-end locked division of labor in GVC.As a new mode of trade, digital trade promotes the digital transformation and intelligent production of enterprises. It has become a new driving force and engine for economic development and provided new opportunities for the high-quality development of international division of labor for China. This paper explores the impact of digital trade on SMEs’ participation in global value chain division of labor from both theoretical and empirical aspects. This paper combs some relevant literature about domestic and foreign scholars learning digital trade and GVC,and introduces the current situation of SMEs’ participation in global value chain in China. And it can find that small and medium-sized enterprises have problems of export information asymmetry, large financing pressure, poor ability to adapt to market changes, the burden of high cost, lack of excellent talents for problems. Moreover,it introduces the status of digital trade development. The future of digital trade development is bright. In the empirical part, the enterprises from 2011 to 2016 are selected to match the database of China Customs Database to measure the export domestic value, and the digital trade development level measurement system of each province and city is established. This paper uses Tobit model to learn the relation between the development of digital trade and SMEs’ division of labor in GVC.In the robustness test, the variables are delayed for one period and this paper uses instrumental variables to test endogeneity and uses corporate profit tax and markup rate to replace the division of labor position of SMEs in the GVC.In order to study the influencing mechanism, the technology level and export cost are used as mediating variables to test the mechanism by the mediating effect model. The moderator is the relationship between government and enterprises. Finally, based on the latest situation and empirical result,we get some suggestions from the perspective of government and enterprise to help SMEs to seize the opportunity of digital trade and enhance their participation in the division of labor in global value chain. The main conclusions are obtained as follows :(1)in general, there is a U-shaped relationship between the development of digital trade and the division of labor status of enterprises participating in the GVC,and the technology level and export cost of enterprises are the mediating variables forming this u-shape.(2)After heterogeneity analysis, the development of digital trade has a more significant impact on the participation of SMEs in global value chains in the eastern region. From the perspective of industries, digital trade has a linear impact on labor-intensive agriculture and a significant U-shaped effect on industry and manufacturing. In terms of trade mode,U-shaped relationship is more significant in general trading enterprises.Enterprises should speed up scientific and technological innovation, adapt to and actively integrate into the development of digital trade as soon as possible; The government should support small and medium-sized enterprises to carry out digital trade from the aspects of laws and regulations, financial services, etc.,reduce the problem of unbalanced development of digital trade, and realize the balanced development of digital trade in the country from the perspective of infrastructure. |
