| The realization of regional coordinated development has long been one of the important goals of China’s economic and social development. It is the basic way to solve the problem of unbalanced and inadequate economic development and plays an important role in the realization of the goal of common prosperity. In recent years,in addition to the traditional regional economics studies of East,West and the regional differences between the four plates in Northeast China, the current situation and causes of the widening gap between the north and the south have attracted much attention. The western region is the key region of China’s economic development and the strategic potential region to support China’s economic growth in the future. Therefore,it is of great significance to study the regional economic differences in western China,Southwest China and Northwest China. In this paper, the temporal dimension and spatial pattern of regional economic differences in western China are measured. In the time dimension, absolute difference was measured by range index and standard deviation index, and relative difference was measured by Theil index and Gini coefficient. The results of internal and inter-regional differences in the western region were obtained by one-stage Theil decomposition of Theil index from 1978 to 2021.On the spatial pattern,Moran’s index was used to measure the global spatial self-correlation and local spatial self-correlation of regional economic differences in the western region. Then, based on the quantitative analysis of regional economic differences in the western region,a multiple linear regression model was established, which took economic factors, industrial structure, basic public services, innovation level and policy support as the first index. The factors affecting the regional economic difference in western China are analyzed by empirical model of the whole sample and sub-region.The results show that: The per capita GDP growth rate of Southwest China is basically higher than that of Northwest China in the past decade and more. The variation trend of internal differences and overall regional differences in the decomposition results of the Theil Index during 1978-2021 is basically the same, except for the two periods of1978-1979 and 1986-1989.In other years, internal differences are greater than inter-regional differences. In addition to the contribution rate from 1987 to 1992,the contribution rate of the southwest region is greater than that of the northwest region in other years after the addition of weights. It can be seen that internal differences are the main reason for the total differences, and regional coordination in the southwest region needs more attention. The line chart of Theil Index from 1978 to 2021 shows that the regional difference between the eastern region and the western region has been greater than the regional difference within the western region,so the gap between the eastern region and the western region is still a key problem to be solved to promote the coordinated development of regions. The change trend of Gini coefficient and Theil index from 2010 to 2021 is basically the same. The global and local spatial self-correlation results show that the regional economy in western China has spatial correlation and the overall heterogeneity is small. The H-H agglomeration area is concentrated in Shaanxi,Chongqing and Ningxia, and the L-L agglomeration area is concentrated in Qinghai,Yunnan,Tibet and Guangxi.According to the empirical results, the influencing factors of regional differences in Northwest China are industrialization level and policy support, while the influencing factors of regional differences in Southwest China are regional investment level, educational resource input, innovation level and policy support. Therefore, specific measures should be taken according to different regional conditions to promote regional coordinated development,to promote the formation of a new pattern of western development and high-quality development of the western region. |
