The manufacturing industry is an important cornerstone of China’s smooth domestic and international dual circulation,and the construction of a modern industrial system,modern infrastructure system,and modern public service system.The transformation and upgrading of manufacturing enterprises is of great significance to the realization of the national "14th Five Year Plan" and the long-term goal of 2035.Innovation driven and technological upgrading are important ways to promote high-quality manufacturing enterprises.The government has issued a series of relevant policies to actively encourage manufacturing enterprises to carry out technological innovation,and has achieved certain results.However,China’s huge economic entity,especially the technology of small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises,is still relatively backward,greatly limiting their own development.Chinese manufacturing enterprises must explore appropriate development paths to meet the needs of market consumption upgrading,continuously solve the "bottleneck" problem in technological innovation driven by favorable policies,achieve leapfrog catch-up,and occupy a place in global competition.Based on literature research and theoretical analysis,this article first selected four typical manufacturing enterprises,namely Guilin Hengyun Mechanical and Electrical Equipment Co.,Ltd.,Guangxi Beibu Gulf Aluminum Co.,Ltd.,Guangxi CSSC Nanhai Shipbuilding Co.,Ltd.,and Liuzhou Jiangnan Casting Co.,Ltd.,for in-depth analysis of the key driving factors of manufacturing technology upgrading,including network characteristics(network centrality,network connectivity,network heterogeneity),resource aggregation,and entrepreneur attention(entrepreneur’s attention and vigilance towards new technologies).Then,using the fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method,an empirical study of 30 samples was conducted,and four key influencing configurations that can achieve manufacturing technology upgrading were identified:(1)high persistence towards new technology,high vigilance towards new technology,high resource aggregation,low network heterogeneity,and high network centrality;(2)high persistence towards new technology,moderate vigilance towards new technology,low network heterogeneity,high network connectivity,and high network centrality;(3)high resource aggregation,high persistence towards new technology,moderate network heterogeneity,high network connectivity,and high network centrality;and(4)high resource aggregation,high vigilance towards new technology,moderate network heterogeneity,high network connectivity,and high network centrality.The research shows that there exists configuration thinking among the key driving factors of technological upgrading in manufacturing enterprises;Network centrality is the core element;The role of key driving factors in the technological upgrading path of manufacturing enterprises is constantly increasing;Key driving factors have a sustained effect on technology upgrading.Entrepreneurs’ attention to external new technologies plays a significant role in the technological transformation and upgrading of manufacturing enterprises,and the centrality of the network is a necessary condition for enterprises to conduct innovation transformation.This study also provides some reference significance for the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing enterprises based on the theoretical basis of studying technology path transformation and technology upgrading.
