Manufacturing is a pillar industry of the national economy. It provides equipment and material support for the development of other industries. It has a supportive role for the real economy that cannot be replaced by other industries.Because of this, almost all the major economic powers in the world are Relying on the manufacturing industry step by step. The standard for measuring the comprehensive strength of a country is the level of development of the manufacturing industry. The competition among countries in the world is also mainly the competition of manufacturing technology.Since the reform and opening up,the development of China’s manufacturing industry has achieved world-renowned achievements, and is called the "Chinese miracle" by the world. However, with the development of China’s demographic dividend and the limited nature of land environmental resources,China’s manufacturing industry relies on the comparative advantages of labor and land resources to achieve the two paths of manufacturing upgrading. It is no longer possible for the development of China’s manufacturing industry.Play a significant boost.Simply relying on digestion and absorption to imitate the road of introduction cannot shorten the gap with developed countries, and it is even unable to meet the development requirements of manufacturing modernization.Coupled with the vertical squeeze of developed countries’ development of China’s manufacturing industry, most of China’s manufacturing companies have been at the low end of the global value chain and are in a dominant position. If this dilemma of low-end locking is not improved,it will lead to China’s long-term dependence on the export-oriented development mode is no longer sustainable, but also induce the emergence of various imbalances in China’s economic structure. Therefore,it is inevitable that China’s manufacturing industry will climb the high-end in the global value chain.Based on the panel data of 30 provinces and cities in China’s manufacturing industry from 2010 to 2016,this paper conducts an empirical study on the upgrading path of China’s manufacturing industry from the perspective of global value chain. The results show that:(1)The improvement of technological innovation level is conducive to the rise of the global value chain of manufacturing industry, and the international industrial transfer has also promoted the improvement of the global value chain of China’s manufacturing industry. In contrast, technological innovation has a more significant effect on the upgrading of China’s manufacturing global value chain, and it has also effectively enhanced the status of China’s manufacturing value chain.(2)For the eastern region, the level of technological innovation and international industrial transfer can significantly promote the rise of the manufacturing value chain.(3)For the provinces in the central region, the international industrial transfer has no significant impact on the upgrading of the manufacturing value chain, but compared with the eastern region, technological innovation has a greater impact on the upgrading of the manufacturing value chain.(4)The empirical results in the western region show that neither technological innovation nor international industrial transfer has an impact on the upgrading of the manufacturing value chain in the western region.Because it is located inland, the manufacturing industry in the western region is often the backward industry in the central and eastern regions. At present, the value chain of the manufacturing industry in the western region has been firmly locked in the lowest end of the value chain, and the upgrading of the industry value chain is in urgent need of new stimulation.
