| In recent years,our country’s conference and exhibition industry has been vigorously growing and reached a new peak of development,the severe impact of COVID-19 makes conference and exhibition industry fall into depression,but under the active regulation of the state,the development of conference and exhibition industry has reversed the trend and presents a new dawn.In the international tradition,convention and exhibition activities have a 1:9 economic driving effect,but this effect is also questioned by many scholars.Exhibition activities need to invest a lot of resources and manpower in the preparatory period.Is its economic driving effect as significant as the international tradition thinks? The analysis and study of the actual economic impact of exhibition activities on the host place can not only provide sufficient practical evidence for the exhibition activities,but also find new ideas for regional economic development.In view of this,this paper attempts to use the synthetic control method,take the 2013 China Arab States Expo and its host city Ningxia as the research object,analyze the economic driving effect of exhibition activities on the host city,and summarize the feasible research methods and ideas,and find out how to discover the theoretical basis and practical path to promote the development of tourism through convention and exhibition,and then promote economic growth through tourism.First of all,the literature analysis method is adopted to sort out the context and integrate analysis of the relevant research literature of exhibition and its economic effects and the related research literature of synthetic control method,which laid a theoretical foundation for the subsequent research.Secondly,collect and sort the relevant development data of inbound tourism in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,analyze the development status and trend of inbound tourism in Ningxia,and analyze the relevant influencing factors;Furthermore,it analyzes the influence mechanism of exhibition activities on inbound tourism of host cities,puts forward research hypotheses and designs empirical strategies.Then,by adopting synthetic control method,24 provinces in China are selected as the control group,and the "synthetic Ningxia" which has not held China Arab States Expo is simulated counterfactual,and compared with the real situation,so as to judge the influence of the holding of China Arab States Expo on inbound tourism in Ningxia.The empirical results show that the holding of China Arab States Expo has a significant positive impact on inbound tourism in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.From 2013 to 2019,the real Ningxia’s foreign exchange income from international tourism was significantly higher than that of the "synthetic Ningxia",with an average annual increase of USD 25.07 million.The holding of China-Arab States Expo has significantly increased the foreign exchange income of inbound tourism in Ningxia,bringing new opportunities to the economic development of Ningxia.In order to make this opportunity become a reality,it is also necessary to find out the target orientation of the development of convention and exhibition industry and tourism in Ningxia,vigorously promote the development of local convention and exhibition industry,actively develop local tourism resources,solve the "bottleneck" factors restricting development,and then promote the development of Ningxia. |
