Research On Placeness Production Of Tourism Characteristic Towns

With the continuous promotion of the new urbanization strategy,the cultivation and development of characteristic towns has become one of the important means to continuously optimize the spatial layout and form of town.At a time when the characteristics of people’s tourism consumption demand have shifted to high quality and diversity,the problem of homogenization of characteristic towns due to insufficient local differences remains prominent,and how to find local advantages on the basis of local development to embark on a distinctive development path becomes the starting point for cultivating high-quality characteristic towns.Tourism characteristic town as one of the characteristic town types,relying on market-oriented operation to combine tourism development with the construction of characteristic towns,not only to effectively promote the construction of a new type of urbanization to find an innovative way,but also for the depth of regional development,quality and efficiency to provide new ideas.This study takes Xizhou Ancient Town and Shuanglang Ancient Town by the Cang Mountain and Er Sea in Dali,which have similar general location environment,as case points,and under the guidance of local theory and field theory,uses case study method,network ethnography method,content analysis method and rooting theory to analyze the current situation of tourism resources and tourism industry development in the two places,and deeply investigates the placeness production-related elements and placeness production power sources in their tourism development.Placeness production resources,placeness production leaders,land use patterns and changes in residents’ lifestyles are compared to analyze the local differences and causes that exist in the two places,and to provide guidance for the cultivation and development of tourism characteristic towns in other places.The study found that.1.Among the placeness production-related elements of Xizhou Ancient Town,the multiple cultural heritages,including traditional Bai houses,Bai non-foreign heritage and the openness and tolerance of the merchant gang,have become important elements to highlight the local character.At the same time,with the further development of tourism,rural scenery gradually becomes a popular landscape in Xizhou ancient town,and "Idyllic scenery + farming culture + traditional houses" gradually becomes an important placeness production-related factor in Xizhou ancient town,while Xizhou ancient town has the advantage of natural resources based on the Cang Mountain and the Er Sea.Among the placeness production sources of Xizhou ancient town,the differentiated demands of interest groups,tourists’ expectations and evaluations,and the acceptance and support of tourism by the original residents have all become important driving forces.In the process of the development of tourism industry in Xizhou ancient town,the benign conflict of interests of various groups brings to the placeness production power.Foreign capital is eager to multiply its capital and enrich local businesses through commercial activities;the government wants to balance efficiency and fairness by establishing civilized conventions to maintain the harmony of Xizhou and create more employment opportunities for residents through land transfer;residents expect a balance between economic and environmental benefits and decide their own behavior according to their own ability and willingness.Tourists consume their localities in Xizhou ancient town and contribute to the production of localities in Xizhou ancient town through evaluation and suggestions.As the "cultural soul" of Xizhou,the residents’ acceptance and support of the local tourism industry is the key to the long-term vitality of local development,while the life scenes presented by the residents as the core influence the tourist experience.2.In the analysis of the factors associated with the placeness production in Shuanglang Ancient Town,it is found that the natural scenery formed by Cang Mountain and Er Sea is the key element of placeness production,while the architectural landscape and scenic roads formed through the development of tourism industry within the local area are also indispensable elements of placeness production.The emergence and growth of new villagers has changed the relationship between people and land in the tourism of Shuanglang Ancient Town,so that villagers no longer rely on the land and fishing industry alone for survival;it has changed the relationship between villages and the market,so that local economic development can be realized through the tourism market;the relationship between villages and villages has also changed,so that villages begin to re-examine local culture and their internal relationship networks become closer.The new villagers have become the key associated elements of placeness production in Shuanglang Ancient Town for a certain period of time.The rapid development of tourism industry makes the ethnic culture,fishing culture and new foreign culture of Shuanglang Ancient Town intermingle,and the process of integration and development provides the impetus for the placeness production.At the same time,the construction and consolidation of locality by media publicity cannot be ignored,as media publicity acts as the front stage to show and inform the outside world,and the local area acts as the backstage to plan and prepare tourism activities for tourists,and this negotiation and collusion provides the impetus for the placeness production in Shuanglang Ancient Town.In addition,major events,such as the treatment of the Erhai Sea,unite the local forces of the Shuanglang Ancient Town and provide the impetus for placeness production.3.Comparing the locally relevant elements of Xizhou Ancient Town and Shuanglang Ancient Town,it is found that the horizontal landscape differentiation created by land use patterns becomes an important source of differences in placeness production resources between the two places.In a similar general locational context,the inhabitants of Xizhou chose to make a living as merchants,while Shuanglang made a living as fishermen,and in the contemporary tourism context,Xizhou has become a "museum of Bai architecture" due to the large number of fine buildings left behind by the development of the merchant gangs,while Shuanglang has the title of "ancient fishing village" due to its fishing and hunting traditions.Shuanglang has the title of "Ancient Fishing Village" due to its fishing and hunting tradition,but its local character has undergone a great transformation into a town with romantic and artistic atmosphere,thanks to the beautiful scenery of Cang’er and the large number of foreign artists.The transferred land in Xizhou Ancient Town provides an opportunity for the tourism development mode of "idyllic scenery + farming culture + traditional houses",while the landscape of Shuanglang Ancient Town is characterized by "Cang’er scenery + sea view inn + art space".During the development of the tourism industry in Shuanglang Ancient Town,there have been several changes in the local production leaders,with local residents,new villagers and the government becoming the dominant players at different stages of development due to the overdeveloped market.Xizhou Ancient Town,on the other hand,has achieved a long-term stable style of development as a showcase of traditional Bai culture,led by the government and supported by the residents.The development of the tourism industry has changed the lifestyle of the residents of both Xizhou ancient town and Shuanglang ancient town to a large extent.This study focuses on the production of locality in tourism-specific towns,complementing the perspective of cultural geography on locality within the field of tourism.It is argued that the overall appearance of placeness production is diverse,contradictory and complex,and that the development and success of the characteristic towns depends on a reasonable choice of action strategies based on the local industrial base and resource advantages,while local creation can to a certain extent,reflect local social and historical changes,etc.In the face of the "packaged and sold" localness,it is important to be wary of criticizing it as unauthentic or commercialized localness.In the face of "packaged localities",we must be wary of criticizing them as untrue or commercialized localities without thinking,but should look at the issue of localities with an open attitude and accommodate the changes of localities for the better.Second,the subjectivity of residents allows them to both shape and be influenced by locality.Stimulating residents’ sense of belonging and responsibility can help motivate them in tourism development,and the role of residents should be clarified and valued in the production of locality in characteristic towns.Finally,word-of-mouth is a powerful communication tool in the new information age that can have a significant impact on tourism destination brands and can be used appropriately,rationally and effectively to communicate in the development of the tourism industry.
