With the rapid development of information platforms such as the Internet,artificial intelligence,5G and big data,a new form of economic development,digital economy,which integrates with traditional industries and takes data information as the production factor,digital technology as the support,and information platform as the carrier,has emerged as the times require.According to the data in the White Paper on China’s Digital Economy Development(2022)released by the China Academy of Information and Communication Research in 2022,the scale of China’s digital economy will grow from 22.6 trillion yuan in 2016 to 45.5 trillion yuan in 2021,with an average annual growth rate of 20.27%,accounting for 39.8% of GDP.The digital economy has become a new driving force for China’s national economic development.The development of industrial digitalization has entered the accelerated track.All walks of life have deeply realized the importance of developing the digital economy.The development of manufacturing industry enabled by the digital economy has become the key to promoting the high-quality development of manufacturing industry.At present,the problem of "large but not strong" in China’s manufacturing industry is becoming increasingly prominent.How to use the development dividend of the digital economy era to promote the digital transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry,improve the production efficiency of the manufacturing industry,and promote the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry is an important problem to be solved in China.Therefore,studying the impact of the digital economy on the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry has more important theoretical and practical significance.Based on the provincial panel data from 2013 to 2020,and based on the detailed description of the time and space characteristics of the digital economy and high-quality development of the manufacturing industry at the provincial level,this paper systematically and completely explains the impact mechanism of the digital economy driving the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry,using the intermediary effect model,threshold effect model and spatial econometric model,The qualitative and quantitative analysis methods are used to study the mechanism,effect and path optimization of the digital economy driving the high-quality development of manufacturing industry.The main research contents and conclusions are as follows:This paper uses Excel and Arc GIS software to visually express the time and spatial characteristics of high-quality development of digital economy and manufacturing industry.The results show that: from 2013 to 2020,the development level of digital economy and high-quality development level of manufacturing industry in all provinces,cities and autonomous regions have improved,with the fastest development in the central and eastern regions and slower development in the central and western regions.Based on the interpretation of the impact mechanism of digital economy on the high-quality development of manufacturing industry and the quantitative analysis of relevant influencing factors,the results show that:(1)digital economy has a direct and indirect impact on the high-quality development of manufacturing industry.Digital economy can directly promote the high-quality development of manufacturing industry,while digital economy can also indirectly promote the high-quality development of manufacturing industry through product innovation;(2)There is a threshold effect between the level of urbanization and the investment intensity of foreign-invested enterprises.With the improvement of urbanization,the digital economy plays a greater role in promoting the high-quality development of manufacturing industry,showing a nonlinear increasing trend;With the increase of the investment intensity of foreign-invested enterprises,the promotion of digital economy on the high-quality development of manufacturing industry first strengthens and then weakens,showing a trend of non-linear increasing and weakening;(3)The digital economy has a significant spatial spillover effect on the high-quality development of manufacturing industry.The digital economy has a significant role in promoting the high-quality development of manufacturing industry in the province,inhibiting the development of neighboring provinces,and has significant regional heterogeneity.The positive role of the digital economy in promoting the high-quality development of manufacturing industry in the eastern region is strongest,followed by the central region,and the western region is weakest.According to the theoretical and empirical results,This paper puts forward suggestions on path optimization in order to effectively use digital dividend and maximize the promotion of digital economy to the high-quality development of manufacturing industry.
