In the new journey of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way,the unbalanced development between urban and rural areas has seriously hindered the realization of common prosperity. Therefore,it is particularly important to explore ways to solve the problem of unbalanced and inadequate development and learn from the valuable experience of the demonstration areas that have achieved high-quality development. The Yangtze River Delta region is one of the best areas for urbanization in China. Therefore, the research on the consumption gap between urban and rural areas in the Yangtze River Delta is beneficial to draw on the valuable experience of narrowing the income distribution between urban and rural areas and explore the path of balanced development between urban and rural areas. With the rise of digital financial inclusion, the Yangtze River Delta region has achieved obvious effects in solving fair resource allocation and the availability of financial services. Therefore, whether and what effects digital financial inclusion has on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents in the Yangtze River Delta region has become the concern of this research. This paper summarizes the existing literature at home and abroad,on this basis combined with modern consumption theory to preliminarily analyze the impact path of digital financial inclusion on the consumption gap between urban and rural residents. Then, cluster analysis is carried out on 19 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region through digital financial inclusion index, and description analysis is carried out on each city. Finally,we took the relevant data of the Yangtze River Delta region from 2011 to 2018 as samples, respectively constructed indicators reflecting the urban-rural income gap and two indicators of urban-rural consumption gap:the absolute urban-rural consumption gap and the Theil index of urban-rural consumption. Then the empirical study is carried out according to the clustering results. The results show that for the first category of cities(Shanghai,Nanjing,Hangzhou),the degree of digital financial inclusion has no significant impact on the consumption gap of urban and rural residents, which is mainly affected by the urban-rural income gap.For category Ⅱ and category Ⅲcities, the development of digital inclusive finance and urban-rural income gap have a significant impact on narrowing the consumption gap between urban and rural residents.According to the research conclusion, this paper puts forward the following suggestions:(1)To improve the coverage of financial services, expand the breadth and depth of financial services;(2)To improve the availability of financial services;(3)To improve the effectiveness of financial supervision, establish appropriate laws, regulations and regulatory systems;(4)To establish a perfect social security system;(5)To optimize the industrial structure of urban and rural areas and coordinate their development. |
