The third industrial revolution in the 21st century has brought a new round of technological and industrial wave. How to seize the technological and market opportunities and build sustainable competitive advantages in an increasingly volatile market has become the focus of attention both at domestic and abroad enterprises. Establishing social networks through cooperation projects, cooperation papers, patents and other forms of cooperation, such as strategic alliances, will enhance learning and innovation performance. Scholars have carried out extensive research around the effect of three-dimensional network structure embeddedness, bonding strength, network density and network centrality, on innovative performance. But few studies have focused on the effect of the different constituents of enterprises' social network on innovative performance, and their conclusions are not the same. Thus, based on the degree of deviation from the current knowledge or technology of track, dividing the innovation model into exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation, then analyzing the influence of technological diversity of collaboration R&D network on two types of innovation.Based on social network theory, enterprises get access to social capital through external relationships, but some scholars have turned to analyze the competitiveness of enterprises from the angle of internal resources based on resource-based theory. Even in the same social network, the absorption capacity of enterprise will be difference, which leads to differences in innovation performance. Thus, this paper use negative binomial model to conduct an empirical study based on unbalanced panel data, which takes samples from enterprises that own co-patents between 2000 and 2011 in the automobile industry. Analyzing the influence of technological diversity of collaboration R&D network on exploitative and exploratory innovation, we also investigate the different moderating effect of slack resource between technological diversity of collaboration R&D network and ambidextrous innovation. The results show that technological diversity of collaboration R&D network have an positive relationship with exploitative innovation, and have an inverted U-shaped relationship with exploratory innovation. Moreover, absorbed slack increases exploitative innovation gains attributable to technological diversity of collaboration R&D network, and unabsorbed slack positive moderates the relationship between technological diversity of collaboration R&D network and exploratory innovation.Based on the conclusions, the article puts forward some management measures and recommendations:(1) Enterprises should actively seek partners to form a strategic alliance, and continue to receive heterogeneity of technology, knowledge, resources from R & D network members, then internalize as their own knowledge and ability; (2) Rational use of internal redundant resources and clearly define the characteristics of internal resource is one of the vital capacities for company.
