Under the influence of global warming and the situation of natural resources,the concept of low carbon rises accordingly.Under the current background of low-carbon development,while the development of manufacturing industry is restricted,the low-carbon environment also forces its transformation and upgrading to achieve the goal of sustainable development.As a major manufacturing country,China has been seeking progress while maintaining stability and accelerating the pace of development in its manufacturing industry in recent years,but there are still problems such as low core competitiveness and weak international competitiveness.Moreover,the characteristics of high energy consumption and high carbon emission of China’s manufacturing industry run counter to the concept of low-carbon development.The transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry must be combined with the actual needs of sustainable development.Therefore,it is of great significance to study the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing industry under the background of low carbon.Most of the relevant researches on the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry are the discussion on its influencing factors,and various analysis methods are adopted.Therefore,this paper mainly conducts researches from the following aspects.The development,energy consumption and carbon emission status of China’s manufacturing industry as a whole and various subsectors are analyzed to further verify the supporting role of the manufacturing industry in China’s economy.Moreover,due to its high carbon emission and high energy consumption,transformation and upgrading are imminent.In order to understand the current level of transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing industry,data from 1996 to 2021 are selected to measure the level of transformation and upgrading by using entropy weight method,and it is taken as the explained variable of the empirical part to objectively evaluate the level and dynamic change trend of transformation and upgrading of China’s manufacturing industry.On the basis of theoretical analysis,explanatory variables affecting the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry are selected,including urbanization,human resource level,FDI,resource endowment,development of financial services industry,government intervention and public service input.During regression estimation,serious multicollinearity is found in the data.After various solutions are tried and failed,In the end,Ridge regression was used to eliminate the effects of the multinollinearity,and.the appropriate Ridge parameter K was selected to construct the regression model.The results showed that resource endowment,urbanization,foreign direct investment,financial industry development and public service had a positive and positive promoting effect on the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry,while government intervention had a negative and negative inhibiting effect on the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry.The influence of human resource level on the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing industry is not significant.Based on the analysis results,this paper puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for reducing carbon emissions and promoting the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing industry from both the government and enterprises.From the government’s point of view:first,strengthen the supervision of energy-saving production in manufacturing industry;Second,speed up the construction of manufacturing infrastructure;Third,strengthen the guiding role of the government;Fourth,promote low-carbon development to achieve "intelligent manufacturing";Fifth,build a low-carbon development platform for manufacturing.From the perspective of enterprises:first,strictly implement the low-carbon emission reduction plan;Second,improve the utilization efficiency of foreign investment in manufacturing.
