The "14th Five-Year Plan" is the historical intersection of "two hundred years",and China’s economic and social development will face great opportunities and challenges.Although China is gradually moving towards a high-quality development stage,problems such as uneven and imperfect development in China and insufficient development momentum in the new era are still prominent.Therefore,how to efficiently realize the development goals of the 14 th FiveYear Plan period and promote the modernization of all aspects of China in the new era and new pattern is of great importance.And the modernization process of the country can not be separated from the construction and improvement of modern cities.Therefore,it is necessary to define the connotation of China’s urban modernization,and build an evaluation index system to measure and analyze the level of China’s urban modernization and its dynamic evolution.Finally,effective policy suggestions are given for the promotion path of China’s urban modernization development,so as to promote high-quality development in all aspects of China under the new situation.This paper aims to measure and analyze the modernization level and dynamic evolution characteristics of Chinese cities.First of all,this paper summarizes the related literature on the connotation and characteristics of urban modernization at home and abroad,and extracts representative views.On this basis,combined with the characteristics and attributes of China’s urban modernization development,the connotation definition of "China’s urban modernization" is improved.Based on the comprehensive evaluation method,a multi-dimensional evaluation index system is constructed to evaluate the level of urban modernization in China.Then,based on the calculation results,Dagum Gini coefficient method and variance decomposition method are used to decompose the difference of urban modernization level in the sample period in space and structure.Finally,through the kernel density estimation method and the traditional Markov chain method,the distribution situation and dynamic evolution law of China’s urban modernization development are deeply depicted and reasonably predicted.The results show that the modernization level of cities in China continues to improve,but the problem of unbalanced development can not be ignored,especially the gap between the eastern region and other regions.Urban ecological modernization and urban economic modernization have made great contributions to the difference of overall urban modernization,so we should start from these two aspects to narrow the gap of urban modernization in various regions of China in the future.In addition,the development path of China’s urban modernization is dependent,and its development motivation is insufficient,which leads to the phenomenon of "club convergence" and "Matthew effect" of two-level differentiation.Therefore,China urgently needs to cultivate new kinetic energy of modernization to promote the modernization process and realize the highquality development of Chinese cities.At the same time,through increasing investment in education and medical care,people’s all-round development can be realized;Establish a new type of government to upgrade the modernization level of government governance system and governance capacity;Promote the organic unity of ecological civilization construction and green development;Improve the construction of modern digital infrastructure and other aspects to jointly promote the high-level modernization development of cities in China.
