With China’s accession to the World Trade Organization(WTO),trade liberalization has been greatly enhanced, especially in agriculture.By the end of 2018,China had signed more than 120 agricultural cooperation agreements with more than 60 countries and international organizations. The promotion of trade liberalization not only accelerates the rapid growth of China’s economy, but also has a great impact on China’s agricultural production. The Strategic Plan for Rural Revitalization(2018-2022)issued by the CPC Central Committee and The State Council clearly points out that agricultural innovation, competitiveness and total factor productivity should be continuously improved, and trade liberalization of agricultural products will have a certain impact on agricultural total factor productivity. Therefore, this study attempts to explore the relationship between agricultural trade liberalization and agricultural total factor productivity, sort out the channels through which agricultural trade liberalization affects agricultural total factor productivity, and then provide suggestions for the development of China’s agriculture. This study uses provincial panel data from 2002 to 2019 to measure China’s agricultural total factor productivity using the DEA-Malmquist model, and empirtically examines the relationship between agricultural trade liberalization and China’s agricultural total factor productivity using the two-way fixed effect model. The results show that: First, during the study period, agricultural trade liberalization has a significant positive impact on China’s agricultural total factor productivity, which is still robust after a series of tests such as endogeneity, replacement of explained variables, replacement of instrumental variables, etc.Second, this study of agricultural trade liberalization mechanism of the effect of total factor productivity of agriculture in our country, the inspection mechanism test results show that agricultural trade liberalization impact on total factor productivity of agriculture in our country is a double-edged sword, technology spillover effect, resource replacement effect is one of the important influence to promote agricultural total factor productivity channels,The effect of import competition plays a masking role;Again,in order to ensure the rigor of the study, based on the characteristics of agricultural trade liberalization in China, discussed the time and area divided into two dimension analysis, the results showed that in the coastal areas of openness is higher, the agricultural product trade liberalization of China’s total factor productivity of agriculture econonmy stronger,in agricultural tariffs adjustments(2002-2010),In the period of stable agricultural tariff(2011-2019),technology spillover has a stronger promoting effect, while import competition does not have an obvious shielding effect. Finally, this study also pays attention to the particularity of agriculture as a vulnerable industry, and puts forward reasonable suggestions on China’s agricultural development and agricultural trade based on the complex and changeable international environment.
