In the current highly competitive labor market,the one-size fits all management model of the organization has gradually tended to be weakened,since the existence of individual needs of employees is completely ignored.The invasion of the COVID-19 pandemic has also slowed down China’s economic growth,enterprises need to survive and develop in a highly uncertain environment,so employees are required to be highly engaged in providing assistance and support.In the current normal period of pandemic prevention and control,organizations allow a large number of employees to adopt flexible office strategies so as to meet the requirements of prevention and control,and this also helps enterprises to return to work and production to a certain extent.Depending on the current information and communication technology and digital office platform,completing the tasks through remote cooperation has become an important form of cooperation.Based on the actual situation the above-mentioned enterprises are facing,it is of great practical significance to pay attention to the flexibility i-deals in the contemporary Chinese context.From sorting out the existing literature on idiosyncratic deals,it was found that there were sufficient research results currently on development idiosyncratic deals and task idiosyncratic deals,including a series of result variables in work areas,such as job performance,employee engagement,and so on.However,the research about the influence mechanism of flexibility i-deals on employee engagement is not sufficient currently,meanwhile,the different impact between the schedule flexibility i-deals and location flexibility i-deals on employee engagement was not deeply revealed,and the theoretical perspective is also limited.Highly engaged employees can output a high level of job performance and improve organizational effectiveness,and this can reduce the impact of the pandemic on China’s economy to a certain extent.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the influence mechanism and boundary conditions of schedule flexibility i-deals and location flexibility i-deals on employee engagement.First of all,a systematic research idea was formed in this paper by sorting out the related research on idiosyncratic deals,employee engagement,ego depletion,techno-invasion,and so on.Secondly,based on the theoretical perspective of ego depletion,the situational stress source of techno-invasion was selected as the boundary condition to construct the influence model of two kinds of flexibility i-deals on employee engagement and put forward the corresponding hypothesis.Furthermore,on the basis of the optimized questionnaire of small-scale pre-survey,a total of 412 valid data in two rounds across time lag were collected through the formal survey,then Spss26.0 and Mplus7.4 were used to analyze the data to test the hypothesis.Finally,based on the hypothesis test results,some management suggestions on how the organizations can use flexibility i-deals to improve employee engagement were put forward in this study.The main research conclusions of this study include:(1)schedule flexibility i-deals positively affect employee engagement,while there is no relationship between location flexibility i-deals and employee engagement.(2)employees’ ego depletion will negatively affect their engagement.(3)ego depletion acts as an mediated variable between schedule flexibility i-deals and employee engagement,while location flexibility i-deals have no effect to employee ego depletion,which shows that the two flexibility i-deals will cause the effect of differentiation.(4)when the techno-invasion is high,the negative effect of schedule flexibility i-deals on employees’ ego depletion will be weakened,and the moderate effect will further affect employee engagement through the mediated variable of ego depletion.That is,techno-invasion will weaken the positive effects of schedule flexibility i-deals,which further shows that the flexibility resources given by organizations can only maximize employee motivation under a standardized technical context.(5)techno-invasion does not moderate the relationship between location flexibility i-deals and employees ego depletion,so it is still necessary to be cautious for organization during the negotiation of location flexibility i-deals.
