In today’s complex market competition,stimulating and promoting creative problem solving has become the premise for enterprises and employees to get out of the work puzzle,achieve wall breaking innovation and sustainable development,and is the key demand and inexhaustible driving force to deal with the crisis in the present and future era.However,creative problem solving has not received enough attention in the field of organizational management.Previous studies focused on the antecedents of creativity and innovation behavior,but the dominant logic and internal mechanism of creative problem solving were not clear,and a deeper systematic analysis and novel interpretation were urgently needed.Based on the lack of existing research,this paper builds a moderated chain mediation model based on job characteristics theory and social information processing theory,and completely explains the internal mechanism of subjective task complexity to stimulate employees’ creative problem solving by promoting critical reflection and positive engagement.The empirical results show that :(1)Subjective task complexity positively affects creative problem solving;(2)Critical reflection and positive engagement play a chain mediating role between subjective task complexity and employee creative problem solving;(3)Openness to experience plays a positive moderating effect on the path of critical reflection and positive engagement in employees’ creative problem solving;(4)Openness to experience positively moderated the indirect effect of subjective task complexity on employees’ creative problem solving through critical reflection and positive engagement.Article from the subjective perspective of task complexity illustrates the employees start the mechanism of creative problem solving,further expand the theoretical mechanism of creative problem solving,supplement the subjective task complexity research,perspectives of understanding the mediation mechanism of critical reflection and positive engagement,to help management practices to identify and guide employee behavior,exploring the potential ideological elite and practical knowledge of organizations,also providing ecological enlightenment and guidance for organizational management.
