| With the rapid development of the construction market in recent years, the general contracting mode has been gradually and widely used in construction activities at home and abroad, and this mode has put forward higher requirements for comprehensive project management. The project manager is the core manager of the general contracting project of construction works and should be a composite talent with comprehensive project management capabilities. The traditional engineering project manager does not fully meet the competency requirements of the general contracting project manager.Through the research and analysis of existing literature, this paper compares the existing research on the identification and screening of project manager’s competency influencing factors and the construction of competency model by combining the characteristics of the position of general contracting project manager in construction projects,so as to provide a rich theoretical basis for the research on the competency influencing factors of general contracting project manager in construction projects and the application strategy of competency model.Through the key behavioural event interview method,10 general contracting project managers and related experts were interviewed and researched, and 41 indicators were initially screened out according to the competency dictionary of general contracting project managers compiled, and then the top 28 factors with greater influence were identified by the BEI interview method to compile a competency characteristics dictionary of general contracting project managers.Through expert group research, the 28 characteristics were initially classified into 4 sections and a competency indicator system was established. The first-order CFA model,multi-factor oblique intersection model and second-order CFA model all passed the model fitting validation, and a competency model for general contracting project managers of construction projects was constructed. It was confirmed that the competency of general contracting project managers in construction projects consisted of four dimensions, and the influence of latent and explicit variables on competency was ranked.Based on the results of the competency model analysis, the four dimensions were used as the focus point to propose recommendations for improving the competency of general contracting project managers. |
