| In recent years,China has surpassed South Korea in shipbuilding and become the world’s largest exporter of shipbuilding products, and its international market share has been increasing. However, compared with South Korea,China’s shipbuilding industry has lower international competitiveness, lower product technology and added value, and lower ship supporting level. At present,China and South Korea are in the leading position in the world shipbuilding market, but they are faced with the difficulties of new ships receiving orders, shipbuilding delivery and financing,so the competition between the two countries’ shipbuilding industry will be more intense in the future. Therefore,China must recognize the gap with South Korea, find out the factors that affect the development of the shipbuilding industry, analyze the development level of the corresponding factors, find out the countermeasures and methods to make up the deficiency, and further improve the international competitiveness of the Chinese shipbuilding industry.First of all,on the basis of sorting out the development history and evolution of international competitiveness of shipbuilding industry in China and South Korea, this paper summarizes the development status and characteristics of the two countries, and makes a comparison from the perspectives of product structure, technological level and ship supporting level.Secondly, the gap between shipbuilding industry of China and South Korea in international competitiveness is calculated by using the international market share, trade competitiveness, revealed comparative advantage index, and revealed competitive advantage index. The result shows that the international competitiveness of China’s shipbuilding industry is lower than that of South Korea on the whole.Thirdly, based on Porter’s "Diamond model" theory, the number of labor, technology input ratio, per capita GDP,steel production level, supporting facilities level, capital return rate, industrial concentration and exchange rate were selected as explanatory variables, and the shipbuilding completion was taken as the explanatory variable to conduct regression analysis. Then, based on the empirical results, the gap between China and South Korea in these influencing factors is compared. It is concluded that China needs to gradually stabilize the number of employees, increase technological input, expand market demand, improve the level of supporting facilities, improve the rate of return on capital, and reduce exchange rate risks. Finally, according to the theoretical analysis and empirical research results, the paper puts forward some suggestions to reform the existing employment mode, increase the investment in research and development, respond to the new market demand, support the development of characteristic small and medium-sized ship enterprises, and improve the capacity of ship supporting industry,so as to improve the international competitiveness of China’s ship industry and become a shipbuilding power. |
