The research on leadership and competency models in management has a long history.In modern enterprise human resource management,leadership is mainly used in the leadership ability building of the enterprise managers,and competency models are more likely to be applied to the core capacity building of key positions in enterprises,which is not limited to management positions.The three key driving forces for enterprise development are market-driven,innovation-driven,and talent-driven forces,but ultimately,they are driven by talents.According to the enterprise life cycle theory,a growing enterprise is in the stage of rapid business development,and what supports its rapid development is the ability level of the core talents in the team.A survey shows that,most mature companies have introduced leadership or competency models for talent system construction,while in growing companies,the corresponding research and applications are relatively lacking,so the necessity of building a competency model is particularly important for this kind of companies.By combining the non-authority influence of leadership with the competency model,this paper builds a leadership-based competency model,which plays a stronger role in capacity building.This paper takes the sales manager position of company A(a growing enterprise)as an example.First,by studying large amount of domestic and foreign literature,it deeply reviews the relevant theories on leadership and competency models,which are used as the theoretical basis for the subsequent research.Second,we analyze the current management status of the sales manager position of Company A.We use the behavioral event interview method and the questionnaire survey method to achieve the data,and then analyze the reliability and validity of the questionnaire through SPSS software.We obtain three common factor variables,namely:leadership,management and thinking skills.They were then combined with multiple linear regression analysis to build a leadership-based competency model.Finally,some suggestions on the applications of leadership-based competency model in recruitment management,training management and performance management are put forward.We believe that the model and the construction method are a good reference for the same type of enterprises,especially for rapidly growing companies.
