Study On The Level Of Urban Integration Of Rural Migrant Workers In Shaoguan And Its Influencing Factors

Promoting urban integration of rural migrant workers and realizing their citizenization is important for deepening urbanization in China.Shaoguan is an underdeveloped city in Guangdong province,and its level of urbanization and economic development is relatively low.Promoting the urban integration of rural migrant workers and effectively solving the labor shortage problem is of great significance for Shaoguan to achieve high-quality economic development and regional coordination.Therefore,it is necessary to measure the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan and identify its influencing factors to grasp the status quo of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan and find effective ways to promote orderly urban integration of rural migrant workers.Based on the data from China Migrants Dynamic Survey 2020 and questionnaire,this paper analyzes the status quo of the urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan,and then empirically analyzes the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan and its influencing factors.In the end,this paper puts forward suggestions to provide a theoretical basis and empirical reference to promote rural migrant workers’ integration into Shaoguan.The research contents and conclusions are as follows.(1)Analysis of the status quo of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan.From the perspective of the integration method,rural migrant workers in Shaoguan are mainly concentrated in the business and service industry,and they are scattered across the city.Industrial and construction workers have more stable jobs.From the perspective of the integration degree,rural migrant workers’ social interaction frequency is not high,and their social participation is low.From the perspective of integration willingness.rural migrant workers in Shaoguan have moderate recognition of Shaoguan,and local residents in Shaoguan have a good attitude and acceptance toward rural migrant workers.(2)Analysis of the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan.This paper uses principal component analysis to evaluate the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan from three perspectives: integration method,integration degree,and integration willingness.The results show that: in general,the comprehensive index of integration level is only 51.33,which is relatively low.Specifically,the integration willingness has the highest score of 75.07,followed by the integration degree with a score of 54.88.While the integration method ranks the lowest with a score of only 24.05.Among all these perspectives,only the score of integration willingness is higher than 60,above the passing line.The scores of integration degree and integration method are low.Therefore,the current urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan is not satisfactory.(3)Empirical analysis on the influencing factors of the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan.According to the previously calculated scores of the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan,variables are selected from four aspects,individual characteristics,human capital,social capital,and psychological capital of rural migrant workers.And multiple methods are used to measure the influencing factors of the level of urban integration and to identify the key factors and their effects and directions.These results show that there are eight main factors influencing the level of urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan,including age,years of education,number of frequently visited fellow villagers,number of cities that they have been to,sense of fairness,sense of security,social trust and sense of happiness.(4)Suggestions to improve the urban integration of rural migrant workers in Shaoguan.This paper puts forward suggestions from the aspects of rural migrant workers,enterprises,and government,including improving job placement,accelerating the development of enterprises,establishing and enlarging community organizations,upgrading the service quality of community committees,and enhancing the quality of rural migrant workers.This paper provides a theoretical basis and empirical reference to promote rural migrant workers’ integration into Shaoguan.
