In the context of country emphasizing on energy-saving and emission-reduction and developing low-carbon agriculture, study on the factors influencing and behavior changes of low-carbon technology adopted by large-scale cotton-plant farmers will be a great theoretical and practical significance to the government formulate and implement effective incentive policies and to accelerate the development of low-carbon agriculture.Based on the technology diffusion theory, the article takes Xinjiang’s large-scale cotton-plant farmers’ low-carbon technology adoption behaviors as the research object according to field survey data and binary logistic model and Pareto analysis method to study the factors influencing and the changes in behavior of large-scale cotton-plant farmers’ low-carbon technology adoption. Then we will plan to establish incentives to promote large-scale cotton-plant farmers adopting low carbon technologies based on the empirical analysis. The study found that the family characteristics, technical environment, information acquisition and management system all have a significant impact on adoption of five low-carbon technologies by large-scale cotton-plant farmers.Actually, there are significant differences in the adoption of five low-carbon technologies by large-scale cotton-plant farmers under different management systems.According to the division of variable features, the technical environment is a common influencing factor for the local large-scale cotton-plant farmers, enterprise large-scale cotton-plant farmers and Corps large-scale cotton-plant farmers adopted low-carbon technologies.Family characteristics are more important for the use of bio-pesticide technology by local and enterprise cotton farmers;Technical environment is the main influencing factor for Corps large-scale cotton-plant farmers to adopt intercropping technologies.Dividing the behavior of large-scale cotton-plant farmers using low-carbon technologies into four phases and study on each stage. It was found that the promotion of government departments such as agricultural technology stations is a key factor influencing the large-scale cotton-plant transition from the cognitive stage to the evaluation stage. In the evaluation stage,large-scale cotton-plant farmers will shift to the adoption stage after considering their own needs and comprehensively evaluating the cost and benefits of low-carbon technology. In the adoption stage, government guidance will promote the attempts of large-scale cotton-plant farmers to adopt low-carbon technologies, but the key factors that really encourage large-scale cotton-plant farmers to change their behaviors from tentative adoption to continuous adoption are labor savings and cost-effectiveness.Based on the above empirical analysis results and incentive theory, five basic principles for the establishment of an incentive mechanism are proposed and an incentive mechanism and an constraint mechanism for large-scale cotton-plant farmers to adopt low-carbon technologies are established. In the process of the diffusion of low-carbon technologies, the above two incentive mechanisms are complementary to the effect of promoting the adoption of low-carbon technologies in large-scale cotton-plant farmers.
