Research On Influence Factors Of IT Ambidexterity

Existing studies have shown that IT ambidexterity can significantly enhance organizational agility and firm performance.Relevant researches in the field of information system have preliminarily recognized the important role of IT ambidexterity in firms.Therefore,the development and cultivation of IT ambidexterity has become an important issue.The research on the influence factors of IT ambidexterity can provide theoretical basis and management suggestions for the realization of information technology capability’s business value and the developing of IT ambidexterity.The development of ambidextrous capability face great uncertainty and ambiguity,and the interaction of knowledge and information in different fields by top managers can enhance information processing and promote the resolution of uncertainty.From the perspective of organizational information processing theory,this thesis explores the influence of knowledge interaction mechanism(including structured interaction and socialized interaction)between CIO and TMT on IT ambidexterity,and examines the moderating effect of environmental dynamism.This thesis builds the research model of structural systems of knowing,social systems of knowing,environmental dynamism and IT ambidexterity.Data analysis and model estimation are performed on matched-pair survey of 347 Chinese shipbuilding firms by using structural equation model.The results show that both structural and social systems of knowing positively affect IT ambidexterity,and these two interaction mechanisms are substitutive in enhancing IT ambidexterity.Environmental dynamism positively moderates the relationship between social systems of knowing and IT ambidexterity,but negative moderates the relationship between structural systems of knowing and IT ambidexterity under the dynamic environment.Most important,there is a three-way interaction among environmental dynamism,structural and social systems of knowing such that the substitution effect will diminish in dynamic environments.The above results extend the current research on developing IT ambidexterity and also provide practical guidelines for firms to nurture and build IT ambidexterity.
