Abstract/Summary: | |
The purpose of the present study was to examine the similarity and differences among three observational coding systems of couple communication and one self-report measure of couple communication. Multitrait-multimethod analysis and factor analytic techniques were utilized to examine the associations between systems. Common and unique factors were then used as predictors of relationship satisfaction and commitment. Results showed general convergence across systems for codes of hostile behavior and affect. Codes of observational and self-reported problem solving behavior were the only significant predictors of relationship commitment and satisfaction, respectively. Results are discussed in light of clinical implications for the assessment of couple communication as well as methodological and statistical limitations. |
