Abstract/Summary:
In the age of digital intelligence, book content and reading methods are gradually becoming electronic and digital, and e-books are gradually taking centre stage in reading. While e-books have evolved with technology to distinguish themselves from paper books, they have also revealed a number of problems, such as the loss of self-identity due to their long-term role as accessories to paper books, the lack of a digital narrative approach that makes it difficult to develop a new design language, and the neglect of design and the solidification of reading thinking that leads to outdated cognitive concepts.Based on this, this paper takes interactive narrative as a research perspective to explore how it can contribute to the design of e-book reading experience in the digital context.Based on the fact that reading thinking, reading cognition and reading aesthetics are transformed along with reading carriers, the research object of this paper is not only limited to the visual performance and interactive features of e-books,but also explores the metamorphosis of their cognitive thinking and aesthetic paradigms in a deeper way.In this regard, this paper focuses on the following aspects.Firstly, the paper identifies the concept and development of e-books,draws out their characteristics, and summarises the shackles faced by e-books in their continued development;then, through a review of the background and application of interactive narratives,it draws out their systemic patterns, followed by a comprehensive exploration of the relevance between interactive narratives and e-books,and the presentation of the value of interactive narratives in e-reading.Next,the characteristics of interactive narrative e-books are summarised and summarised, and the qualities of this new book paradigm are explored. Then, each type of work is innovatively collated and analysed, and the basic elements of interactive narrative e-books are summarised. Then, the design strategies of interactive narrative e-books are proposed from two aspects: narrative and visual, respectively. In the inner layer, the textual strategy is built by breaking the linear pattern, transforming design thinking and creating an interactive narrative;in the outer layer, the visual strategy is built by forming a dynamic interactive layout, creating a differentiated interface and expanding the perceptual experience. Finally,The Book of Weather was selected as the original text for design practice to verify the feasibility of the strategy. This paper finds that e-books have been trying to break the boundaries of conventional thinking in order to find a new reading ecology.By drawing on interactive narrative theory and methods, the internal narrative logic, textual construction and external visual representation, and design aesthetics of e-books can all develop new meanings and content, thus helping to transform e-books.With the advancement of technology and methods,in the future,e-books may break the traditional perception of ’books’ and ’reading’ and develop a new design and aesthetic language.
