"Media constructs reality" has become a consensus in the field of communication,and the research on how media constructs reality has become a hot topic.Nowadays,short videos have become an important channel to influence people’s real life and information dissemination,and short videos have become the main way to receive and produce information content.However,the instantaneous,fragmented and infinite characteristics of short videos are not only shaping the new media time and space,rewriting people’s media habits and characteristics,but also influencing and even producing a group of cities,people and lifestyles with a new look.The reality of media construction contains both dimensions of media time and media space,and the media people in this time and space also present complex and new characteristics.Time is not only an objective existence at the physical level,but also given a more complex and rich connotation in the era of constantly updated and iterative digital communication.The transformation and development of society has gone through the transition of the concept of "natural time-clock time-media time",and people have started to pay attention to the change and influence of media on the traditional concept of time and space.The development of new media technology itself represents the occupation of audience’s attention and time,especially in the current mediated society,which is characterized by short videos.Therefore,this paper attempts to introduce the research perspective of media availability and explore the temporal shift and new spatio-temporal characteristics of short-form video communication in the new era,as well as the perception and impact on time and space experience in people’s daily life,based on existing research.With the theoretical framework of media availability,this paper explores the spatio-temporal interaction between people and media technology,and examines the possibility and tendency of short videos to construct media space-time from three dimensions: production availability,social availability,and mobile availability.This study takes the rapid development of online short videos and virtual platforms as the research object,and uses in-depth interviews and questionnaires to understand and analyze the media usage preferences of Jitterbug users and the changes in their media space-time.The study found that short video viewing and use behaviors bring about different and new media time perception,spatial divestment and emotional alienation.Since the media space-time constructed by short videos has a pseudo-real time and hidden shielding,it will lead to the proliferation of fast food culture and the overproduction of information,which will lead to people’s temporal alienation and increase the anxiety and tension brought by media use.This paper also finds that in the current spatial and temporal distribution of short videos,there are also a series of regulatory problems and issues such as technical aspects and difficulties in defining responsible subjects.Therefore,it is necessary to construct and regulate the social etiquette system in media space and time,to improve the media literacy of media users in short video space and time,and to encourage the use of short video transmission to pass on the excellent national culture.In this paper,we discuss the conceptual understanding of media time and the diverse media patterns such as "interesting circles" and "emotional publics" formed in the mediated existence by focusing on the relationship changes and interaction practices among the environment,technology and people,with a view to guiding people in the media time and space.It is of certain innovative value and practical significance to guide people to establish a scientific and reasonable concept of media time and space in the media communication space constructed by short videos,and to cultivate the habit of deep thinking and a correct view of media exposure and use in the era of short videos.Recognizing the diversity of time and space from the perspective of media availability is conducive to better understanding and grasping the time of media use,with a view to correctly handling the interaction between people and media,and reasonably planning and utilizing the private time and space in the short video field.
