| With the continuous development of information technology,the media environment has undergone a shift towards visual culture.In the era of visual culture,"images are information".News pictures,with their intuitive,vivid,and rich characteristics,contain more information,subtly influencing the emotions of viewers and the direction of social opinion.Since December2019,the outbreak and rapid spread of the COVID-19 has become a milestone in the history of public health in contemporary China and the world,an important issue of health communication,and an epidemic has become part of the collective memory of the public.In this process,the visual symbols of COVID-19 report play an important role.We should pay attention to the role of pictures in the report,especially in the report of COVID-19.As a result,questions such as "How do news images in the mass media present the medical issue of COVID-19?" and "How does COVID-19 report narrate in images?" were immediately raised.This study takes this as the starting point of the study,based on the visual framework,and combines the two major issues of media practice and health communication to investigate the visual framework in the photo report of COVID-19 epidemic.The research focuses on People’s Daily,a national key authoritative news website,and analyzes multimodal text represented by its language map.After 400 samples were taken and content analysis was carried out through coding categories,through various statistics,it was concluded that the People’s Daily Online had constructed four visual frameworks of prevention,information,care and commemoration in COVID-19 photo reports,timely made epidemic prevention policy interpretation and medical prevention and control science popularization,presented the epidemic transmission chain through information transmission,and effectively improved public cooperation,In humanistic care and commemorative ceremonies,the image of a big country and the picture of the whole society working together to fight the epidemic were created.On this basis,the study further analyzed the construction mechanism of the visual framework.Based on external mechanisms such as the news industry and reporter experience,aswell as the internal use of visual grammar,it was found that People’s Daily has formed four major frameworks for comprehensive reporting of the epidemic situation through the rational coordination of news images through the reproduction of meaning,interactive meaning,and composition meaning,and generated conceptual images through metaphorical rhetoric,using the general idea of "mobilization and regulation" in its work,Establishing a rhetorical identity of sympathy and opposition,condensing social consensus on practical values,alleviating public panic,and arousing public confidence is a successful visual reporting practice in a public health event.At the same time,the study found that while People’s Daily was doing a good job in mobilizing the epidemic,there was also a clear ideological tendency.By leading the reporting content through preset positions in advance,the boundaries between "news" and "propaganda" gradually blurred,and the problems of solidified reporting thinking and homogenization of content also emerged.As a symbol of the times,photo reporting plays an important role in the critical turning point of the current epidemic.Public health policies and communication concepts are changing,but the responsibilities and responsibilities of mainstream media will not change.News photo reporting is not only a "mirror" of society,but also should assume corresponding social responsibilities.Therefore,this study explores and analyzes the internal relationship between the visual framework and visual grammar of epidemic reporting on People’s Daily,with a view to providing inspiration for future media reports on public health events and social emergencies.It also provides references from the successful perspectives of picture authenticity,topic selection,and humanistic care in this report on People’s Daily,hoping that more multimedia reporting images can objectively convey information and subjectively express value,We look forward to more news media that can effectively guide public sentiment and gather consensus at key event nodes. |
