Metaphorical Practice And Meaning Insight

In recent years,China’s ecological and cultural construction has gradually been recognized by the world in terms of both theoretical and practical effects,and the "Oriental Ecological Wisdom" has also received widespread attention internationally.Building an ecological civilization discourse system with Chinese characteristics is a process of gradually moving towards popularization in practice,based on the current development characteristics and based on China’s reality.As a social public event,environmental issues involve multiple interest games.If different value orientations are to be coordinated,it is necessary to build a consensus on social and environmental values through communication.In the decades of contradictory competition between economy and environmental protection,mainstream media in China have actively adopted various rhetorical strategies to reproduce or reconstruct facts in order to create social consensus and consolidate social identity.In this context,this study selected a total of 2903 news reports from the "Ecological" and "Green" sections of the People’s Daily from May 18,2018(the National Ecological and Environmental Protection Conference)to May 18,2022.It built a corpus of environmental news reports for the People’s Daily,extracted subject words using the green software Antconc3.5.9,supplemented by a MIPVU metaphor recognition program,and manually screened metaphorical words to identify conceptual metaphors,Under the framework of critical metaphor analysis,this paper explores the characteristics of metaphor use in mainstream Chinese media in ecological environment reporting and the ideology behind metaphor through insight into the linguistic cognitive factors behind metaphor.Based on the three primary metaphor categories of structural metaphor,ontological metaphor,and positional metaphor,this study is subdivided into 14 secondary metaphors,including war metaphor,journey metaphor,money metaphor,illness metaphor,curriculum metaphor,spatial metaphor,frame metaphor,body metaphor,plant metaphor,anthropomorphic metaphor,object metaphor,architectural metaphor,field of vision metaphor,and color metaphor,with a total of 94 specific metaphor trigger keywords.The study found that environmental metaphors illustrate the basic content of the concept of ecological civilization in the new socialist era and the major principles and policies of ecological environmental protection in a simplified and conceptualized way,reflecting the full use,flexibility,and refinement of language and rhetoric strategies by mainstream media,strengthening social risk awareness,adhering to the construction of an ecological discourse system with Chinese characteristics,stimulating national emotional identity,and assisting in the isomorphism of national political consciousness,Not only has it enabled the general public to deeply understand the style and charm of our Party’s concept and ideological process of governance,but it has also demonstrated the language advantages and cultural resources of the Chinese nation in responding to the global ecological crisis and constructing a global ecological governance system.
