As transmitting/receiving devices of electromagnetic wave, antennas play an important role in wireless communication systems.Because of its low profile, planar array antenna is widely used in communication systems. With the development of antenna technology, modern antennas are developing towards miniaturization, low cost and multi-function,and the antenna should be multi-polarized,multi-band and ultra-wideband for different applications. In this paper, the following planar array antennas for different applications are studied and designed:1.A dual-band dual-circularly polarized planar array antenna working in Ka-band is designed. In order to obtain wider impedance matching bandwidth and axial ratio bandwidth,Archimedes spiral antenna is used as antenna unit.In order to reduce the high-frequency loss, the feed network is designed by using gap waveguide transmission line. Finally,a 4×4 dual-band dual-circularly polarized array antenna is achieved.2.A wideband dual-linearly polarized array antenna is proposed. To solve the problem of the relative high profile of traditional dual-linearly antenna array fed by the gap waveguide transmission line,we proposed a new electromagnetic band gap unit, which makes duallayer gap waveguide transmission line available, achieving low profile. The finally designed wideband dual-linearly polarized planar array antenna has a height of 0.4 λ0,and achieves an impedance matching bandwidth of 40%.3.A Ku-band one-dimensional monopulse waveguide slot planar array antenna is designed and manufactured. The substrate integrated waveguide is used as the transmission line, and the slot unit adopts Taylor excitation distribution, which make the slot array realize the sidelobe level below-20dB.In order to meet the practical needs, the transmitting and receiving antennas are placed on the same PCB board. Then, the sum-difference network of the traditional two-dimensional monopulse antenna is further studied, and its shortcomings are analyzed. Finally,a two-dimensional monopulse feeding network is designed by using a new higher-order mode cavity, which achieves a compact size and low loss.According to the requirement of different systems, several planar array antennas was designed, and a new electromagnetic bandgap structure for double-layer gap waveguide feed network and a cavity structure for two-dimensional sum-difference beam network were proposed, which provides ideas for the future research.
